I had kenalog in my last instillation. Does it make your urine stream weaker?
I had had heparin, lidocaine and bicarb in instillations before then. The first void would be weak, but then would get stronger. Now it seems like the stream is consistently weak.
I was also started on detrol, woudl this be causing it?
Is it a problem. I only go about 1/2 cup at a time, but used to be able to go more. I do feel like I am emptying my bladder, but is does take longer.
Thanks for any input!

I don't get instills but i looked it up and kenalog is a corticosteroid so it should only have been sort of an anti-inflammatory reaction so i don't think the weak stream is from that but i could be wrong....
With detrol, it could be from that since when i had it, it made me incontinent so it could easily be from that....
i hope this sorta helped...
take it easy and hope you find relief :pray:

Detrol reduced my stream to a dribble. It did nothing for me except keep me on the toilet longer. When I stopped Detrol my stream returned to normal.

Please keep up the replies- the more info the better!!
At least that starts the ball rolling on what is the "problem." But is it a "problem?"
I am not getting too much relief. I still go about 8-10 times a day and usually "hold it" for an hour after I first feel it.
Why didn't they tell me about the Detrol- argh:rant:

Kennalog is a steroid and I know a friend with IC was doing instills using this and it caused her severe retention, and I also could not pee after having instill using kennalog. Note I also had marcaine in my instill which may have caused the retention, but I changed the marcaine to lidocaine and had no retention issues at all. Maybe it is the kenalog that causes it.

Steroids are soothing for me. If the weak stream continues, I think you should discuss it with your doctor.

I think that this is what drives me crazy the most. I watch my diet, I do what the doctors tell me to do (mostly :), but my symptoms wax and wane. I'll have symptoms for several days, then with no apparent change, they'll stop. Then they will come back- for no apparent reason (and I am very good with my diet I promise:angel:)
I do plan on talking to my doctor, but some of these things I feel I should be told about, i.e. the retention. It's almost as if they think if they mention it, I will have it. Like my mind controls all of these things and by planting that seed... I will automatically have the problem.
Like today, I stopped the detrol- to see if the stream would "perk up" it has, and ironically I feel better today than I have in several days. The frequency has really lightened up. Why??? Couldn't tell you. :loco:
Thanks for all your input. Please keep it coming, you can't base any decision on one person's experience, but you can gain knowledge through all of our experiences. to all who have helped me through this!

I haven't done instills yet, so I don't know about kenalog, but I have taken Detrol before and it did NOT help me. If anything it made things worse because I had to strain to pee.

I think these meds affect people differently. I've been on 4 different types.Ditripan,Datrol La,Enablex and Vesicare. Ditripan and Datrol didn't help my frequency,Enablex did to me what you are describing, retention and could hardly get anythihg to pass. Then I went to Vesicare. I still have very frequent trips to the bathroom with Vesicare but is is the best of the bunch for me. I would go back to the Dr. and explain what is going on,there are other meds you could try. Good luck.
