I think for me the worst comment has been You dont look sick you look great !(even several doctors said that to me ):( I think its a great compliment but I still cant figure out what looks have to do with feeling ? Is it just me or does everyone associate pain to not looking good ? I usually reply thank you but I'm in pain I am not sick !!
Kelly:rolleyes:

That's a tuff one that we all have to work out in our own way. It does take time and alot of patience. My IC has been really bad for the last 14 years and I've told people that they are NOT allowed to ask how I am feeling. If I am ignoring people, they know it's because I'm sick but chose to show up the the function anyways. I've got in-laws that drop in when ever they get the urge (3=4 times a week) and I use to get so angry. Not anymore, I grab my pillow and heating pad and go to my bedroom. They are uninvited, they know how sick I've been and to me it's just plain rude to do that without at least a phone call. That is one thing I have definately learned not to feel guilty about anymore (YEAH:D )
For others who aren't family members, if they can't tell by looking at me that I'm in pain, I just say I'm "just peachy" and that seems to work wonders......

wishing you the very best~

Kelly,
I can't stand it when people say that, my mother-in-law is famous for saying that! I always want to say "my looking good doesn't mean that I am not in pain!" Sometimes it makes me want to look bad intentionally and see what she says then! Good luck with that, I know personally how tough it can be! Hugs!

Hey! I've got a great idea!
When people tell us how good we look and we don't look sick we should just say "with this inter-beauty I have, it's just impossible for me to look bad":D :D

I used to have ladies at church walk up to me and comment on how pale I was. So, I used more makeup. The smart ones could tell I was in pain because of my eyes. DH could tell...pews aren't very comfortable. (it was embarrasing to leave because someone would be concerned and come "check on me") Sometimes I would squeeze DH's hand when it hurt really bad. Most of the time these people would say I looked the best when I felt the worst.

(Of course there are a lot of healthy people that look AWFUL!:D )
