This is what i think caused my ic.
I was born with three kidneys had two bladder surgery before i was a year old and another one at the age nine. I missed the whole part of shcool that year and had to be homeschooled.
I have had many many many to many uti my whole life exp. since i became an adult. I have one uti every mth a week before my peroid hits so i'm in major pain for those two weeks out of the mth.
I believe my IC came from many UTI that went untreated because we had no inc or money I feel like the uti scared my bladder I know alot of people feel like they have a uti when they really don't but Mine are the true UTI's:( this is one thought on my ic, but another thought i have is when i had a tubeable after the birth of my last son. that is when things started getting really bad. I notice after I got threw breast feeding my son alex when he was 6 mths old I started drinking on the weekends with my husband at home with my mother in law had the children becuase if i didnt drink with him he would end up trying to drive or sneak off to one of his friends house he just wanted someone to drink with him so we got the kids a 3ft pool and on the weekends we would sit around the pool and i would drink either a wine cooler or a lite beer with my husband even tho i couldnt stand the taste of beer.:p the next day after drinking i would notice a pattern starting when i would wake up in the morning i would have this awful feeling that i had a very bad infection. the pain was so unreal I would go to the er and nine out of ten times i would have an true infection very few times did it come up i didn't have one.
after a while going back and forth to the er and to my doctor threw the week she sent me to a wonderful IC uro. who talked to me and figure out what was wrong with me on the first visit. they did that test where they put that stuff in your bladder which i really think they shouldnt do that because i think that doesnt prove anything i believe the only way to prove you have ic is for them to really go up into your bladder to find out. i think that test is very painful for no true reason Yes dont get me wrong it does give the doctor some idea that maybe you have ic but nothing is for sure until they truely look inside your bladder.
its been a long road i have had many treatments from dmso to nerve blocks all type of medicine back to dmso that i do at home now.

I know we all have our thoughts on this and please share some of yours with me. maybe we can put something together and figure out something more then we already knew.

hugs and prayers sent to all of you my ic family

I honestly believe that having a buildup of toxins over a period of years may be a cause of IC as well as other health problems. All the poison in our system is bound to affect our organs (environmental factors, diet, mercury, medications, etc.) At the same time, however, I am hesitant to do a total cleansing program because symptoms get worse before they get better as the poisons leave the body. I'm not sure if I can handle the getting worse part!

I dont know what can cause IC but my problems definately started right when my kidney troubles started 2 years ago !I had never even had a UTI or any bladder problem until then! Since then I am now on my 8th UTI , 3 kidney infections , and now IC.
I do believe when they find a cure and more answers they will find multiple causes for IC ! My thery is because so many people have diffrent symptoms , diffrent levels of pain , and diffrent circumstances prior to being diagnosed ! Just my thought !:)

Pelvic trauma is what I think did it for me. I never had any bladder problems at all. Only 3 UTI's in my life until I have several surgeries for endo and the last surgery was botched - partial ovary left inside of me as well as tons of endo all over bladder, ureters etc... 3 weeks later I started with what I now know to be my first IC symptoms. Certainly makes you wonder...

Sometimes I think of all the UTI'S I've had, I have been doing alot of research and I think I may have found the cause. I agree with you Zanni2, I think that is another thing that cause all these bladder problems.

I developed IC following what I now know was an unnecessary abdominal hysterectomy. I refer to it as the abominable surgery!

However, I think I probably would have eventually developed it anyhow --- I just think the trauma of the surgery made it move more quickly.
