Hi everyone :)

i read in the hand book about two versions of the elimination diet adn was wondering if there was any other ones. My problem is is that i was becoming a vegetarian before i was diagnosed, and right now i limit meat to Fish and Chicken (also shellfish too) so i cant eat part of the items on the list. I finished DMSO treatments two weeks ago and felt really good but 3 days later i was in the whole again because of my poor diet (i ama college student i cant help eating the junky college food) .. anyways i am just trying to get back to normal again and want to know how i can do it.. also do you think i should go back to the doc again?? they told me if i had problems to go in, but what else can they do for me?? i have been on elmiron for 2 months now(doesnt seemt o help, but i know it takes a while so i am still waiting)..

Please help

Thanks,
Rachel

hello,
it takes the elimron from six mths to a year to work but those dmso treatments you took helped the elimron get into your system quicker. that is what i was told by my uro. and i love him to dealth he has helped me so much he even felt like pulling his hair out with me at one point. but we finally found something that helped me after many treatments we went back to the dmso at home the heparin and marcaine and that has been a good sent to me. I don't have a large problem with foods but i do stay away from spicy foods (used to be my fav) I stay away from sodas and drink water gatoraide(sp?) to drink and really high in acid foods.
I even stay away from fish only fish ican eat is the whiten fish i found at the market i put it in tin foul put salt and a small dash of pepper on it cooked in butter) now that is good. if you can stand butter. salt and pepper
You should start your own ic diet list and take pelief when trying new foods.
sending you hugs and prayers for a better tomorrow

thanks for the info.. that is very helpful..

i dont know exactly what is bad for me or not.. but as i understand, on the elimination diet, you eat foods you know will not bother you then introduce a specific food and try it once a day for a couple days, right??

You're correct about the elimination diet. And it is possible to live entirely on the so-called "junk" foods and still follow an IC diet. The trick is to do things like order that burger with no tomato or sauce of any kind, eat the french fries without ketchup --- and drink spring water instead of sodas when you go out to a fast food place.

Also, since your doctor has suggested contacting them if you have problems, it's time to make that call. There are many treatment options available for IC and it does sound like you need medical attention.

Sending healing thoughts,
Donna

thanks donna.. and i am going to call my doc today and see if he can help me some more with an elimination diet, and because i still have a lot of urgency. Is there anything that you can suggest to take for the urgency or something i can ask my doc about that might help me?

Donna's right about the fast food! I know you're a vegetarian so a Hardee's thick-burger may not be on your menu (They are the tastiest plain fast food burgers I've found). As far as chicken goes, I know I can eat Chick-fil-A chicken sandwiches or their chicken strips--they're all breaded but not in anything spicy.

I recall lots of pizza during my college days. Although, I can't eat pizza from the fast food chains (tomatoe sauce, meats), I've found that I can customize pizza at this one local restaurant to fit the IC diet--olive oil or pesto instead of tomato sauce, grilled chicken instead of pepperoni, fresh basil and lots of mozarella!

I guess along those lines, I've found that I can easily get an IC friendly "junk" food fix from diners or restaurants because they offer you more flexibility since you can make requests like no tomatoes, sauce on the side, ect. Also, when in doubt I'll take some Prelief.

So can you all eat the buns that come with the burgers. I thought they had mononitrate or something in it that would make the IC flare?:(

Don't know about nitrate in the buns. I know by trial and error that I can eat them without a problem, but maybe someone else would be sensitive to the preservatives in the bread?
