i have horrible pain during intercourse - even putting in a tampon is too painful to handle! my doctor wanted me to get some sort of shock therapy to relieve the muscle spasm (not really sure what that is...) but apparently my insurance wont cover it. is there anything i can do myself to help ease the pain?? i've heard that massage can help... can i do that myself or does it need to be a professional? please please please any tips would help so much, thank you!

Hi. I wanted to tell you a physical therapist that specializes in IC and PFD can help you with that. I have one and she does the massages. I get internal PT as well and external. I had to search to find her, she specializes in IC, sex pain, PFD and IBS. I have it on hold at the moment but I will be going back soon. I would ask your doctor about a therapist to help you with that. I also have found KY liquid with sensitive and gentle ingredients to be very helpful!! It cuts down on alot of the pain for me. As for dealing with it myself, I need a trained therapist to help me because they do an exam and they can tell what muscles are affected and then they know what to work on. Hope this helps.

Hi Samantha , I have PFD as well and like Lisa said , you can go to PT wis covered by most ins (even my ins through the state and they give you a hard time about things like that ) You can ask your IC doctor if they know of a physical therapist or if they have a specific recommendation . I have had PT for my pelvic floor dysfunction twice and already I have had sex w less pain :woohoo: I also had a problem w using tampons , that pain has gotten a lil better but it depends because I have really bad periods and my pain levels are usually really high when I have it , so I think that might take some more help . But its def something to look into ! Hopefully you have access to it and that it helps . Good luck !!!!!

I was recently told that I have pelvic floor spasms. Does anyone have burning in the vulva and clitoris with PFD?

Thanks

Hi Bunnykinb, I also have burning in the Vulva & Cliterous it's awful isn't it - drives me mad :loco: I was diagnosed with IC, PFD & I also suspect I have vulvodynia.... I think pretty much all of these cause this pain but would suspect that it would be called vulvodynia??? Just kind of sums up the pain in that area? I'm pretty new to all of this & kind of feel like I have to do most of my own research as it's difficult to find a doctor here in England who is familiar with any of these conditions :cussing: Hope your pain eases, ice packs can help!

Hey!

I'm a newlywed and also have the some problems...

I can tell you what has helped me; but I cannot promise they will help you.

First of all I take Flexeril an hour or so before having sex... I know it kind of ruins the spontaneity but I mean its better then nothing...

Also I use about 5ml of a lidocaine hydrochloride jelly 2% uro-jet being careful to not getting on the clitoris because then you lose all sensitivity... unless of course you want to numb it...

This seems extreme but sometimes I put an ice cube inside of my vagina and it helps to numb the urethra you can try that if you dare.

I also find that using lubricant helps but I realized that using lubricant with glycerine or any kind of tingle causes a flare

...I hope this helps...

Oh yes....

Warm rags seem to help better then cold ones afterwards..... because of the sensitivity...

my insurance doesn't cover it!!!! i've already checked!! and it's a pretty nationally well known insurance, too. in fact, i switched from my old insurance to this one because it has better benefits, but now i'm stuck :(

I have been sitting on ice packs for 2 days. Today, I missed work again but didn't feel as awful as I have been. My clitoral burning last for days sometimes weeks. What takes that pain away?

lidocaine hydrochloride jelly 2% uro-jets

talk to your doctor about it

its a syringe filled with lidocaine numbing medication you can squirt it all over your clit and vulvar region, your vagina and vaginal opening, and (my favorite) In your urethra!

They were literally my saving grace miracle drug!
I LOVE THAT

Hi Lara Maria......... wow, that sounds fabulous :smile tee I sure do hope I can get that here in England!!!!!!!!!!!! I asked my doctor for the lidocaine gel which he has prescribed me at 5% I haven't used it yet & am now worried it may be too strong??? Any thoughts here, please help if you can :confused::confused: None of the doctors at my surgery are familiar with any of my conditions so I tend to get my info on this sight & then sorce what I can though my normal doctor, so... unfortunatley I may get given the wrong thing!
Thanks for listening & any advice would be gratefully received :help:

I do have 2% uro-jets, but when applied to my clitoris, the burning doesn't subside. I do have a prescription for 5% ointment that I will fill today. I have been stuck to the house because of my burning.

You have to make sure they are using the right code for the insurance company to get it covered. At first I didn't think mine was going to cover it (as they said they wouldn't) and resorted to the fact I was just going to have to pay for it myself. I paid out of pocket and my PT gal convinced me to submit it to my insurance company for reimbursement. What do I have to lose right? Turns out they covered almost 70% of it! I submited 5 sessions at once and got a nice check in the mail less than 30 days later. The PT gal says that it is all in the way they code it for the insurance company. So make sure they are using the right code. Many times when you call in, they have never heard of this type of PT, so they just assume it is not covered. If other forms of PT are covered (like for your leg/back) then this should be covered as well.

It really, really helps. My PT gal even taught me and my hubby how to do exercises and releases for at home and that helps out a lot too....especially when I am having a bad day.

Good luck!
