Hi there. I'm a new ICer unfortunately. I've read so many of the stories here and so many people are so much worse-off than me. It took about 8 months of continued effort with unhelpful uncaring doctors to finally find a specialist who diagnosed IC and for the past 2 and a half months I've been on Macrodantin which at least has sorted out the infections I kept getting which were actually worse than the IC. I only really suffer with it in my urethra for which I'm truly grateful and I'm three days into my first real IC diet and am already amazed at the difference I'm feeling, honestly I didn't believe it would work but obviously it does so I'm really grateful for that too. I have onther problem though which is where this all started and I really badly need some advice. Why on earth the endless vaginal bacterial infections. I hate medication and decided a week ago to stop the macrodantin just to see if my homeopathic medicine was helping. I immediately got a bacterial infection again, nasty fishy smell and all. This is worse than the IC almost and no matter how many times I've asked doctors to explain this they just say we're prone to infections but yet the site says it's not really a symptom of IC. I got Flagyl yestd again from the chemist and I again asked her this time, what does Macrodantin do, why am I on Macrodantin and she said it's an urinary tract antiseptic which keeps the bacteria count in the urinary tract down. She also said that IC people don't always void their bladders completely which is why they're more prone to these infections as the urine which stays behind gets old and bacteria grows in it. Does anyone have any advice on this situation. Surely I cannot stay on Macrodantin for the rest of my life, why on earth is this happening. Having a healthy love life is also almost impossible if one has vaginal infections all the time??? Someone please help??

Being on antibiotics will make you very prone to yeast infections. You need to find a good probiotic (I take megadophilus by Natren). You can find them at health food stores or Whole Foods markets if you have one nearby. Also it is highly recommended to go on a no yeast diet. I never knew this before, but yeast really feeds off sugar. So you'll want to avoid as much sugar as possible in your diet. Also avoid obvious yeast sources like bread. You might want to add yogurt to your diet. There are some natural supplements you can check out also that can help eliminate yeast. Hope this helps.

I'm not a medical professional but I would like to write about something that helps my partner who is prone to UTI's. Her doctor put her on a low dose of Cipro for 6 months and says that has done wonders for people. Pro biotics are important. Jarodaphalis, acodophilis etc. taken half way through the time to take the antibiotic. I am sorry you are going through this.
