Last year when I saw my Gyno, I told him that I skipped 2 periods and that my periods have changed. He wasn't too concerned. My hormone test was normal. I usually only bleed for 4 days in which 2 were moderate bleeding, other 2 were light. He at that time suggested a small hormone dose or even ablasion. My sister who is a nurse said that procedure is for people who bleed heavily and I don't so she thought it was ridiculous for him to suggest it. Anyways, I did neither. Now my periods are really bothering my IC and because I have mixed incontinence it just feels like everything is hanging on the ground. It is just so uncomfortable that I continually jump in the shower to wash off. They are still really only 2 days of moderate/heavy bleeding. I was just wondering about this ablasion (?) procedure and if any of you had it and if it made your IC worse after the fact. I believe this procedure will eliminate your periods. I could be wrong. Any other suggestions that have helped you as far as menstrual cycles and IC? My periods are now like every 36 days and last month I had spotting for over a week so my Gyno had me take prestergone for a week which stopped it. I'm so afraid it will happen again. I've had like 3 ultrasounds and he said my uterus looks ok. I did have 2 ovarian cysts that have now gone away. I had the CA-125 test which was normal too. I really hope the transvaginal ultrasound would show any irregularities and that he would act on it if that was the case. When I get my periods, they are now longer but I have like 4 days of old brown blood at the end of my cycle when I wipe and a tiny bit on the pad. Is this normal? I don't know what is normal any more. Thanks for your help. This website has much information.

I had the endometrial ablation procedure called NovaSure. My periods were heavy for years before I finally decided to do it. After having it done, I had 2 or 3 days of very light bleeding every month and my periods stopped completely a year or so later. My IC symptoms started when I woke up from NovaSure. I got a severe vaginal infection afterwards and a vaginal abscess. This is rare and I have no idea why it happened. My doctor has done it hundreds of times and never had any complications before me.

Sorry to hear that Gopher. That really stinks that your IC symptoms started after that procedure. I also read that from other women that their IC symptoms started after various procedures. That's a bummer. Thanks for your input and I hope you are feeling ok these days.

Yeah i am interested in the ablation procedure too....
I have become severely anemic again and thats the only thing that is bleeding so i have been sorta thinking about it...
But right now i am just seeing in the iron shots get me back to normal again or not...
since i have had my first shot, i had another period and it felt like i bled all the iron away again....
i hope we both find some relief somehow soon....
well update me on what you decide and stuff...

I had that done in 2005, be careful, I only spot for a day now but, it threw my hormones more out of balance than they were to begin with!:smile tee:cat:

I had this done. I had the cold procedure called her option, it was done in the office. It made my IC a disaster. I am just being honest. I was in horrible pain for 3 weeks and my IC doc said I should of never had that done. It also increased my bleeding and did not work. I know its successful for some people. The procedure is very painful, if I would have known it was going to be like that, I would of demanded to be put to sleep because of my IC. The gyn that did this procedure did not know a thing about IC. I know they have several ways of doing it, I had the least invasive way but with my IC, of course I flared like crazy and it hurt.
