I know there is a program through the Social Security Administration for those who have never paid into SS. We had an aunt on the program.

Hi, this topic came up higher up above on the board under "Success Stories" topic is titled, I think "Social Security."
There are two benefit programs for the diabled under SS- SSI & SSDI. I know more about SSI since I have 2 disabled adult children who qualify under this program.
If you go to their website, there is a wealth of information.
Hope this is helpful, Carla

Your husband does not have to go with you. And if something should happen to your husband, what you would get is your benefit, plus a portion of his benefit --- so the total would be equal to what he would get. That's the way the Social Security folks explain it. So if you are eligible for $500 and your husband is eligible for $600 --- if anything would happen to him, you would still get your $500, plus $100 of his benefit so your total would be $600 (his eligible amount). I learned this when my father-in-law died.
