Well I spoke to a lawyer once about this. I was in the same predicament. We had paid 10.00 that month and the next month got a letter stating we were in collections.
I was FUMING! I didn't want a hospital bill on my record as delinquent. Well this lawyer friend said if they deposited my check that month, they HAD to accept at least 10.00 after that.
So she needs to pay 10.00 and let them cash that one in. After that she needs to call and be blunt that 10.00 is all she can do at this time and after that maybe she can do more. She just needs to get harsh right back with them. :(
Hope this helps a little. blink

I hope it helps her, Rhonda. I'm not a confrontational type person, unless STRONGLY provoked. But you can't let these people run all over you. They're just doing their job. But they don't know what's in a persons check book.
Let me know what happens. :)

The $10 a month works. When my mother got sick (she lost her fight and died) she had no insurance and started paying $10 a month to each dr and hospital that she owed~she had no insurance and her income was next to nothing. Since she paid her $10 monthly AND on time, there was legally nothing anyone could do to her.

Teri is right. Your friend should be sure to keep her cancelled checks for proof that she is paying. Some medical facilities will keep harrassing, but she should just ignore that unless they threaten --- and if they do that, she can see a legal aid attorney for advice.
