I was very happy to find out that my pain was something other than endometriosis. I say this only because a hysterectomy was starting to be talked about.

Later, the whole concept of IC settled in and I am of course not so happy. I am relieved that at this time I do not suffer from urgency and frequency.

I would love to hear stories from anyone else in the same boat. My doc was completely surprised to find IC in my bladder. I'm one of those rare cases I suppose.

I wish I knew more about the onset of IC and how it starts. Does it usually include frequency and urgency and then pain???

Hi Chelle and :welcome:!! I had pain at first too , at least I dont remember anything else ?? Anyway I do have frequency , retention , and urgency now , especially if Im flaring !!! I dont think the doctors have too many answers when it comes to why IC starts ? Everybody is different , some seemed to start after UTI's , others , it just came out of the blue .... Mine seemed to start after I had abdominal surgery .... This site is a great place for information on anything IC and the people on the support forums are wonderful w info from experience !!! Did your doctor start you on any IC meds ??

:welcome: to the ICN...

I wish they knew how and why certain ones come down with IC, but alas, they do not. I also wish everyone had the same symptoms. If that were so, I think it would be easier to find the cause and a medication/treatment that would help all of us, or better yet, a cure.

For me, symptoms came on quite suddenly. One morning I was fine, that afternoon I was running to the bathroom every 5 minutes, then the pain came on fast and furious that night.

I must say that I feel so much better now than I did when I first went to a urologist to find out what was causing all that pain. I still have IC, but I usually feel good. I have many more good days than bad ones.

Hi Chelle,

I am like you, pain has always been my symptom. You won't necessarily get the urgency and frequency. I hope you feel better soon!

Chelle,

I too had mainly bladder pain. Rarely frequency, but I do have some urgency. I have been dxed with IC about 1 1/2 years but had it much longer, and so far the frequency has not set in, and hopefully it never will. My bladder has gotten better since dxed. Hope you find something to help with your pain.:)

Chelle-I am glad you were not diagnosed with endometriosis but I don't think I would have chosen IC either! I was just diagnosed with IC 3 months ago but as I look back, I see there were some symptoms before I realized I had it. Back in March I can remember running into the house to the bathroom because I had to go so bad. A week or so later, I was sitting at work and I felt this twinge in my abdomin and I became dizzy. Shortly there after I became very bloated, the urgency became frequent and pain began in my pelvic area. I thought I had a UTI but was I mistaken, so hear I am today!
