I was diagnosed with psoriactic arthritis years ago but have only had to deal with a little of the rash part , I was on methotrexate for a while and was not able to tolerate it, Wondered if anyone else have skin problems along with the ic. What is good for Psorasis, Any advice is appreciated. I need help . Is there a cream you can buy that will help. I think stress is a big factor. I do have plenty of that lately. Everything I take for the arthritic pain hurts the bladder and therefore if I get rid of the rash, I was hoping it might help the other. I take something for one end, it hurts the other end.

My youngest son has psoriasis. He found a support group on the internet that has been very helpful for him. If you'd like, I'll get the URL from him and share it with you. He also has psoriatic arthritis, but so far it's confined to one finger on one hand --- it's been stable that way for several years so we're keeping our fingers crossed.

Thanks Donna. I am keeping my fingers crossed for him also. I would so appreciate the info. you have on it. I do need to research it and talk to others,. I guess I have been so busy with the ic, I have just sort of let the other go. It is letting me know it is there now. I thought it would be better in the summer months. I can take steroids and it helps for a while, I just hate to get on another med of any kind.

I have dealt with Eczema for the majority of my life. It was really bad when I was a kid and there were so many foods that I had to stay away from. I grew up as a "navy brat", so I never had the same doctor two appts in a row. If I heard "you will grow out of this" once, I heard it a million times!. When I started on the pill, I found that it caused my Eczema to flare. I finally started going to a well known dermatologist that helped me alot. While I still had a horrible rash on my right hand which was so bad, I lost my fingernails on my middle, ring and pinky finger. My fingerprints were even changed. I was told that where my Eczema was, I would more than likely deal with arthritis in those places as I got older, which scares me since it was so bad behind my knees on elbows and on my hands. I am almost in my mid 40s and so far, I still don't have any arthritic issues, but I have noticed that a few months ago I went on antiobiotics for tonsilitis and a double ear infection. I was on 3 different types of strong antiobiotics which have cause my skin rash to flare up again. I have little red spots which look much like chicken pox, that wont heal. I have noticed that I have a couple that have come up on my face and a few on my stomach. They are not a rash, but more of a spot that forms a silvery scale, then the scale comes off and it's red until the scale comes back. I am very careful about getting hot because that tends to make my Eczema worse. I know it isn't dry skin, but actually over active skin cells. I have also learned a few years ago that it is also classified as an auto-immune disease. My doctor's feel that is what makes it hard for my skin to heal.
I have also started having cracking skin behind my ears. I have made an appt with a new dermatologist since my other one just retired. So far, I have found nothing over the counter that has made any changes. I also know I can't take steriods due to some side effects.
Donna, if you would send me the information for that site, I would greatly appreciate it.

I was diagnosed with the Psorasis and I the places on my skin I would describe the same way that you do. I have tried several creams on it. The scaley is right now mostly on my scalp, under the breasts areas and behind the ears like you have described, I have used everything under the sun. I am one to take things in to my own hands, so everything I say is only from my own experience. I have found that hemmoroid ointment is the best thing I have ever found to get rid of the scaley patches like behind the ears. It has also worked on my scalp, but is very hard to get just a little and is very hard to wash out. I was given a cream called Triamcinolone for the patches behind tha ears and under my breast. There is also a cream that you can purchase at Walgreens for about $8.00 called Calmoseptine. the first is a rx. the second, is just over the counter. I think that the patches under my breast and behind the ears are worse in the summer months. I was told a long time ago that lying in the sun would help. Who knows. I do have joint pain a lot though. Hope some of this info helps you. You might want to google these creams before you go out and but them. Something that has helped me might or might not help someone else. '

So far, I haven't had any pain at all with my joints. I know when I first read about Eczema may be related to where you could have arthritis later, I was scared to death, especially since I have had it so bad on my hands and feet. Since arthritis doesn't run in my family, but Eczema doesn't either. I am beginning to think I was adopted! LOL!
I will definitely do my research. As I said in my PM to you, I started doing so much research on everything back when I learned that doctors don't always have the answers. What I definitely like about my IC doctor is that he does know how much I read and I certainly don't believe the sites that say that their IC was cured, etc. I have had it long enough to know that IC and Eczema/Psorasis is very complicated, so I definitely avoid the "written testimony" type sites!
Thanks again Sandy!

yeah i love Calmoseptine....it actually helps with the anal fissures i keep getting....definitely calms those down....
I have eczema all over the place....mostly back and legs....
i do have chronic back pain due to the scoliosis i have....
it is strange because wherever i have pain i get itchy....i realized that before and docs always say there its two different things that just happen to be close together...so who knows...:loco:
I find that eucerin cream the one that says that its calming...that helps me a lot....
and hemp cream helps A LOT....you can get that if you have 'the body shop'
around....HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT...it makes the real bad eczema on my fingers go away from just a couple times of rubbing the cream in....calms things down real quick....
if you need to vent or any tips message me or any tips that you have too...
i am always welcoming new tips :lmao:
i hope all are doin good tonight and getting good sleeps...we all need that for sure
take it easy and take care

Just wanted to update to those of you who have the skin problems like Psorasis and wanted you to know that the doctor gave me some steroid cream that has gotten rid of almost all the rash. It is called TRIAMCINOLONE ACETONIDE CREAM. I used it only 3 days and almost all the rash is gone. It has worked faster than anything I have ever tried. JUst thought some of you could get some and it would help you. It is an RX. so you will have to get it from the doctor. IHe told me to use tea tree extract, and aloe conbination on my scalp. It makes your hair oily , so don't use it b4 you go out. Hope this helps someone.

I just heard back from my son. He recommends http://www.psoriasis.org as a good place to find information and support.

Thanks Sandy and Donna for the information. I just did a little reading about the psoriasis that I have started having over the last few months. One of the things that can trigger it is tonsillitis which I had in February. My spots are going away, just have couple left. I have been using Aloe (how simple) on several areas. I noticed that when I was applying it several times a day, it was clearing up. Even my "boob rash" was no longer red, just dealing with the bumps which were going away too. I also started taking L lysine for my immune system, but got concerned reading that sometimes that supplement can actually make your immune system over adjust and make symptoms worse. I stopped it last week, plus haven't been applying the aloe as much. Well, over the weekend, I started back on the supp and the Aloe and my skin is again clearing up.
Of course stress is another thing to avoid to help clear up skin flares. Stress seems to be a source of many problems!
Things are looking up, so that's good!

Yes, Tracy, stress is a killer. It is something that is unavoidable, but I find every time I really get upset pain and psorasis is much worse. I just do my best to try to stay ahead of the rash. I just out of the blue thought about the aloe in my window. It has helped the rash more than anything except the cream I told you about in my post up above. I also have used the aloe on my scalp and it is helping it too. Maybe we are on to something. Hang in there and keep us posted, Donna and Bessie, thanks for the info. .I will look into those also. Everybody , have a good day.
