I have been in a pretty major flare for quite some time now and today I started having burning in my urethra, and spasms really bad.
I can barely sit, it hurts so bad and have been taking pyridum all day. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what i can do to help eliviate the pain. I can't take baths i get infections very easily in the tub, I took a shower and it helped a little but it is really killing me............
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..........
Thanks

Hi, sorry you are feeling so bad!
Have you tried heat therapy or cold therapy...one or the other or both should give you some relief. I tolerate cold therapy (bag of frozen peas or other veggies I like better than ice) better than heat therapy, so that is my usual self-help for when I can't sit and for burning like you describe in your urethra, cold therapy would probably be best. For bladder spasms, probably heat therapy would work better for me, if I can tolerate it.
I also use Rx lidocaine patches and lidocaine gel to make sitting more comfy. It has been a lifesaver more times than I can count. Some people w/ urethral burning will squirt some Rx lidocaine gel or ointment into their urethras and say they good exceptional relief.
I know I can't live w/out lidocaine. I've never had a problem getting an rx for it from my GP or GYN...they don't understand why I need so much of it b/c they don't have the problems that I do, but I've never been denied a presciption. It comes in gel forms in a tube and also more liquid ointment forms in a bottle...my preference is the oral lidocaine ointment...often prescribed for dental aches and pains but is the same thing, it comes in a nice size bottle with a good screw cap, so it travels well and easier to keep sanitary than lidocaine in a tube. I have used med droppers to squirt this ointment into my urethra and it works well, but I don't often have urethral burning, I use it mostly for my Vulvodynia and Vulvar Vestibulitis.
Hope any of this helps...if you don't have lidocaine gel/ointment in any form, it is a good thing to have in your IC/VV emergency kit! I don't leave home without it!
Best wishes,
Bri:)

I think it would be a good idea to be checked to be sure you don't have an infection working.

I've posted all over the place about Librax. It is a smooth muscle relaxant and stopped my constant urethral pain. Please ask your doctor if you can try it! Good luck to you.
