Hi all
I had a secound round of botox injections last week, this time into the levator ani. I know that botox works on the spasm in the muscles. Does there ever come a time when no more botox is required i.e does the muscle eventually stay out of spasm?
Thanks
Neil

Since Botox is still in the experimental stage for treatment of IC, it may be some time before we have many answers about how effective it is over the long haul.
I'm very hopeful that one day soon, it will be found that Botox, or one of the other treatments currently being studied, will turn out to be "the" answer for us.
Warm healing thoughts,

i have never tried it how does it work? what does it do? do they really put needles in your bladder while your awake? does it hurt?
I know of at least two people who have had major relief from botox being injected in the pelvic floor. Maybe they will tell you how often their procedures has been repeated.
I had botox injected only in the lower quadrants of the bladder, and underwent general anesthesia for the procedure. The procedure itself was very easy for me. It was after the procedure that I truly became aware of the fact that I had pelvic floor dysfunction. For women, PFD can be spotted much early by a OBY/GYN who specializes in this area.
As Donna pointed out, botox, for treatment of IC, is still very experimental in the United States. Research urologists are still fine-tuning their techniques. To the best of my knowledge, there are no on-going clinical trials here. Botox seems to be used on a case by case basis at several different cutting edge urology centers. It is usually reserved for refractory or unmanageable cases of IC and is chosen in place of more invasive procedures.
You might want to read Dr. Christopher P. Smith's "lecture" on this site for more details. This is one of his major areas of expertise.

I´m agree with Liz and Donna, and now I think that we have a lot of questions about Botox, and patients and drs are learnig together
I have had 3 times the injections: 3 times in my urethra, twice inside my bladder and twice in my vagina
And all the times I am without spams
Rhonda:
Of course my injections are under anesthesia, I only know Diane and Mayr A that had the injections in their dr´s offices

I too agree with Donna, liz and Flora. I have had 2 times with the Botox injection. The first time i had it done under general anes. and the second time under sedation. It will helped on my urgency and frquency. That is a good question to ask my doctor next time I see him. Deborah
