I'm having symptoms of urgency and frequency during the day. I don't have problems sleeping through the night its just hard getting to sleep. I have burning in my urethra pretty much everyday all day and it burns when I pee. I also have a hard time starting to pee I will feel like I really have to go and then when i try it feels like my muscles don't want to relax and open. Also if I hold it for too long my muscles get tighter and its even harder to pee. I have pain during intercourse which is how this all started. Before i was getting symptoms with my bladder and urethra I was just having pain during intercourse. Also after intercourse I would go to sit up and wasn't able to because i got this really bad pain in my vagina around my pelvic muscles it felt like something popped out of place or back into place....it really hurt. The pain during and after intercourse went on for about two months then I started feeling like I had an infection so I tried three different antibiotics but it still didn't go away. Now I'm seeing a urologist. He looked in my bladder with a camera and said my bladder wall is thicker then normal which to me means that its inflamed. Hes also done alot of bladder scans most of them showed up that i didn't empty myself but then a couple of then showed that I did. I've been put on medications for OAB but they made me worse. It made it even harder for me to void, made my urine flow weaker and didn't take away the feeling like I have to pee 24/7. I find I feel worse when I'm sitting down or lying and when driving because of the vibration. Also before sex or if I get turned on my pelvic muscles go crazy it feels like my pelvic muscles are being electrocuted, it really hurts also. I have been having these symptoms for two and a half years but from then end of September last year all through out winter most of my symptoms went away. I didn't consistently feel like i had to pee or had to go as often. I was able to have sex because i wasn't having any pain during or after. I went out drinking almost every weekend and it didn't bother me ( make me feel worse) I drank tea, juice and pop and still i felt ok. I also wasn't constipated and was having normal BMs 2-3 times a day. Thats another thing too I find I feel better when I'm having normal BMs and going 2-3 times a day. Anyways so I thought everything was getting better and going away up until about two months ago when all my symptoms came back and some are more painful then they were before. Oh one other thing if I push on my pelvic floor or my urethra opening it feels like I have to pee. I also have IBS and scoliosis and get cysts in my ovaries. I was thinking that i might have PFD but then I also have symptoms of IC. If anyone thinks I have either one please let me no or any suggestions at all would be great.

:welcome: to the ICN

It is possible that you might have IC and/or Pelvic Floor Dysfunction (PFD). I think it would be a good idea for you to talk with a doctor who is familiar with these two things and see what they think. They are the only ones who can diagnose what is causing your symptoms.

I hope you area able to find a doctor who can give you some answers and who will be able to help you.

If you have IBS than I would definitley get checked for celiac disease or at least gluten intolerance. IBS is the #1 misdiagnosis for this. It can also cause IC symptoms and many many other issues including many autoimmune diseases. Even if the tests are normal (many false negatives) you should illiminate gluten from your diet for a month and see if you have any changes. If you add it back in a feel worse or have a bad reaction you know you are gluten intolerant. Many people (including myself) are gluten intolerant and have negative celiac tests.

When someone has IC do they have a history of more then one UTIs. And what foods do you find gluten in?

I have a history of a lot of UTIs and I think a lot of us do on here. Gluten is a protien found in wheat, rye, barley. Oats in the U.S. are contaminated with gluten because they are put in the same storage units. You can however get certified gluten free grains. Gluten is everywhere (breads, pastas are the obvious, but it is used as a thickener in salad dressings, sauces, ice cream, make up, toiletries, and on and on. Before you panic, please know that there are substitutions for all of these. You can find lots of great gluten free food. Most often they are made with rice instead or corn. It can be hard but worth it. Also you should check out the IC diet. That should be something you check out as well.
