View Full Version : Perimenopause?
I am there, I turned 50 in April and although I still have periods, they are definately changing. I have never taken any hormonal BC. I am not really having hot flashes yet, and I had been going 1 1/2 to 2 months between periods, now I am back to shorter cycles and they are lasting longer and starting up sometimes 2 weeks later.
Is this typical, how messed up did your cycles get before you finally stopped?

Sometimes the road through menopause is rocky, full of potholes, and just plain miserable! Others just scoot right through with no problems at all. It does sound like you might be there --- hopefully you won't have hot flashes, etc. and will be one of the lucky ones.

When I began the change, my periods were all over the place. The first time I missed a whole cycle, I thought I was pg. I went to my doctor and he said that I wasn't pg...just perimenopausal. That was a shock because I was only 38, almost 39. It took around 5 years of mixed up periods, but I finally had my last one that took it's sweet time stopping (one whole month).
I was one of the lucky ones and got to the other side without too many problems. I had some hot flashes and did lose my temper a few times. Hubby and I decided that as long as I was not experiencing a lot of problems, that I would try to get through it without HRT. I was able to get through it without them.

I know I'm going thru menopause- or at least the nurses think I am, I'm going to the doctor in a month or so for my annual checkup and will do lab work to include this.
I really can't help you in regards to your periods, as I had a partial hyster. over 8 years ago. I do know that I am having hot flashes/ but mostly night sweats.
