I have severe IC and before I look further into bladder removal I wanted to get some feedback from anyone who has had these procedures done. How it is done, how long it lasts, what city and state it was done in and who the doctor was. I live in Montgomery, AL so I am trying to find the closest doctor to me that has experience doing these type procedures. I would appreciate any information anyone can give me. :help:

I had a uterus nerve ablation about 6 years ago or so. At the time, my gyn said he has had mixed results, from no improvement, to about 50% improvement. I had no improvement. He did tell me at the time, it was controversial procedure, but I was in so much pain during my periods I gave it a shot. Though it didn't help me and my recovery took about 2 months or so, I'm glad I at least tried it. They don't cut all the nerves, they can't and I was told they might not get the "right" nerves - also, the nerves help hold things in place, so there is a risk that things might collapse. I'm going by memory here and it's been a while, but that is what I remember (though my memory could be off somewhat).
Good luck to you if you try it.

I had a denervation/ablation done. It was not sucessful, however, the Doctor, I'm not sure he did it correctly. I am going to have a nerve cut in my sacral area in the fall. I will find out more about what he's going to do exactly. I've never actually had a nerve Cut so to speak so I am a bit scared but he's a great Doc and knows what he's doing, so I have to put my trust into him and keep going.
I wish you luck in your experience with any of these procedures.
And just a side note: I had my bladder removed in 2002 and reconstucted in 2006 and I still have that "I gotta go feeling" which I consider PAIN! Mine is caused by something called Pudendal Nerve Entrapment. That is what I am currently undergoing treatment for. So it's not the be all to end the pain. I would suggest getting many other opinions and maybe even try to find a new doc if you are not fitting with your current one.
Well Wishes,
Kara

I live in Montgomery as well and go do Dr. Alex Childs at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. He is at the C. Paul Perry Center for Pelvic Pain and I have been going there since Sept. 07. He is great. I don't know where I would be without him. The doctors here don't have a clue!
