I've just been diagnosed with osteoporosis. My doctor is recommending Reclast - the once-a-year infusion therapy - because the bisphosphates taken orally would probably spark my acid reflux. Has anyone tried this or the oral meds (Actonel/Boniva/Fosomax)? I'm worried that somehow this may impact my IC also. The other problem is that I cannot take calcium tablets, as that has definitely hurt my bladder in the past. So I really need to start a treatment soon. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Marielle

I take Actonel once a week for about 3 years now my bones are getting stronger with it. I did take one that started with an F but the side effects were not good for me.

Hi, Victoria. If you've been taking it for 3 years and it hasn't bothered your IC, then I'm hopeful I won't have problems either. Thanks for responding to my post.

Boniva and osteoporosis
Hi i have severe osteoporosis and have been on Boniva for two years. i will be getting a follow up scan next month to see if it has increased my bone density.
It doesn' t bother my IC at all.

I also take Actonel. It has improved my bones every year.

I'm taking Fortical-its a nose spray, seems to work the only thing I don't like about it is that you use it everyday. I did try Fosomax but that had some side effects that I couldn't handle.

Hi Marielle, I tried Fosomax, had side effects I couldnt handle, plus my dentist didnt want to work on my teeth because of dreadful side effects that can happen when on bishophronates, so I am only taking calcium tablets, plus I got onto a web site called,
www.SaveOurBones.com I am doing weight bearing exercises, wearing wrist, hip & ankle weights, doing what these people tell me, and hopefully my bones will improve. good luck with your problem yvonnef
