does elavil weight come off when stopped?

hi everyone.

i've been on 12.5mg of elavil since january. the first time i took it, i had no weight gain. but i was afraid of that side effect and switched to neurodotyn. which, didn't help as much. i switched back to elavil and have since put on weight. it's like puffy weight....
i'm curious if the elavil weight comes off easily if you STOP taking the pill? i'm talking with my doctor about stopping it because my bladder has calmed down to the point of where my IC is actually only PFD. i can eat anything etc. i take a muscle relaxer at night for the PFD and i take elmiron and i've been able to taper off my physical therapy appointments.

it seems strange to me that i'm still on elavil...i don't need more help sleeping through the night than the muscle relaxer gives me.

when you all stopped elavil did the weight come off?

I had been on Elavil the majority of my 20 years with IC. I didn't have issues with weight gain until the last few years. Nothing like turning 40! I tried other similar meds without the same benefits but I did better on the Elavil. I have also been doing better with my symptoms over the last few months, so I completely stopped taking Elavil in February. I have lost 10 pounds so far. I have also started walking quite a bit since the weather has become so nice, so I am sure that is helping increase my metabolism as well.

I went down to 25mg elavil from 50mg lost no weight. Now I have been off elavil almost one month no I have lost very little maybe 4 lb of the 25 I have gained. I have also been walking everyday. Vicky

I take 25mg every evening to help control the pain of IC. I have tried to back down to a lower dose a couple of times and the pain returned. I am now trying to eat healthier and am losing the extra pounds gradually.

I've been taking 20mg of Elavil for almost a year now, haven't gain any weight- (wish I would- bet I'm one of the few who would gain some weight!!) I lost 35lbs last August and down to 119 - we (doctors don't really know why? and wish I would gain some back-- of course, some of my co-workers keep telling me that they would be very happy to give me some of their extra weight!-I keep telling them if they all did that then I would probably look like ---! (I will let you all fill in the blank)

I've wondered about weight gain with Elavil. I seem to be in that small percentage of people who are prone to have the side effects that medicines say they can cause. I know my hair has thinned quite a bit since I've been on Elmiron and now that it's summer and I've been on Elavil for almost a year, I can sure tell that I've put on the pounds too. Of course I can't blame it all on Elavil.
When I don't feel well, I don't exercise like I should and since I also broke my ankle six months ago, I can't walk alot either.
