I was wondering if any of you could give me some suggestions. My 12 year old daughter is showing signs of "possible" IC. she complains of vaginal/groin pain and lower abdomen pain. she has always gone through stages where she has to pee ALOT, sometimes, would say..about every 5 mins or so and at times very urgently. and now I am noticing the pain correlating with the frequency. She hasnt started her period yet but could at anytime. so I dont know if this is something that is just "puberty related" or maybe both. I talked to another IC friend who helped alot with a little about what she experienced and some really good advise. I was just wondering if anyone has gone through tis with kids before and if so, where do I start? what questions should I ask? I was an adukt when I got IC so I dont really know what to ask as far as kids go. what will they want to do as far as tests go? ANY help AT ALL will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Oh and also..she HAS had been tested for UTI's/Bladder infections and they were negative with acception for one.

Thank you so much,
Melody

I honestly think it would be a good idea for her to see a urologist or a gyn. It's possible she has IC, but it could be something else.

Sending warm healing thoughts,
Donna

Start with her pediatrician and go from there. If you're not satisfied with that opinion, ask for a referral to a pediatric urologist or a gynecologist.

Being a mom is 10 times harder when our children arent feeling well.

Melody,

I just want you to know that I'm thinking of you and your daughter!

I was diagnosed with IC in 2000! My doctor in Pittsburgh, PA Dr. Gina Rooker - She was an angel - really!! IC was debilitating me!!! When I went to see her, her first words were “I think I know what’s wrong with you.” That was so refreshing to hear since I’ve been under the care of an urologist most of my life.

I had always suffered from UTI’s since I was little and knowing what I know now I probably didn’t even have UTI’s. I’m sure most of the time I was suffering from IC.

I was wondering if your daughter eats a lot of yogurt? I can’t eat yogurt it makes my IC worse.

I’m sure you know all about the IC foods you can & can’t eat.

Dr. Rooker told me too that some of her patients have gotten relief with Chiropractic care. I’ve been under Chiropractic care since 2000. I know that Chiropractic care has made a big difference in my IC and my life. I was so desperate that I would’ve tried anything!!!

L5 Subluxation: A Cause of IC - a lot of my problems is in L4 & L5 – Lower Lumbar

I would go see a Chiropractor – reputable one.

I think you would see a big difference in her with Chiropractic care. If I’m not mistaken, you too suffer from IC – you should visit a Chiropractor too!!

Have her drink a lot of water – her daily requirements.

I wanted to share my story with you!!

Praying His promises bless your day,

Wendy

Thank you Wendy :) Thats a good idea, I'll have to check that out. I had a Chiropractor tell me that most of the problems people deal with have to do with the spine, But..he kinda freaked me out, lol, so I stopped going and havent been back.

I have to say this website has helped me in SOO many ways. from learning I had a prolapsed bladder AND uterus, which I would never have even know existed if it werent for women on this site telling me that, thats what my symptoms sounded like..to advise on how to deal with IC, in MANY different ways. its amazing how many things there are out there to help us that we wouldnt know about if it werent for the AMAZING women on this site ( oh..and some men, cant leave them out :) ) who were and are always willing to share their experiences, good and bad...to just lending an ear and a heart when we need to vent, even if it has nothing to do with IC. lol..ok..I rambled, anyway, Than you Wendy, and everyone else that helps others and NEVER judges. I found that you are all true friends

Melody, I just seen this.. Do not know how I missed it.. I am sorry your daughter is going through this.. I know when I was young I truly believe I had IC then. As long as I can remember I have had frequency and urgency and burning when I pee. I just wish someone would have listened to me then! The one thing to remb though if she does have it. Is she has a great mom who is very knowledgable about this disease and I do believe caught early it can be better treated. But also her hormones could be starting to flare up and this also could be causing some of her problems.. I wish her this best.. ((((hugs))))

I think you should talk to the dr too and see what he has to say, if you don't like his answer, then see a gyn or uro. Its best to catch whatever is going early.

www.ichelp.org, on the top right of this website do a search for children with IC, it will pull up a bunch of information on how to get them to the correct doctors, diet, possible misdiagnosis..etc..
This website i gave you is the IC Association a very reputable site like the ICN.
If you have any questions there is a number also on the webpage, lady's name is Ann-Marie she runs the foundation, there is even a mother of a child who has become an advocate for parents of children with IC.
If you can't find it let me know and i would be happy to copy and paste it to you.
I truly hope your child does not have this disease, but just in case, there is nothing wrong with getting as much info as you can, knowledge is power.

Good Luck,
Tracey

Thank you Tracey, I will deffinately check it out. I hope too she doesnt have this HORRIBLE disease. I know how hard it has been for me to deal with, I cant even imagine my baby having to deal with it. Im hoping its all just hormones, but she ahs had alot of frequency and urgency since she was very little and now pain. Trying not to worry :). but that site should help alot. I'll let you know if I need any help navigating through it.

Thank You,
Melody
