Hello,
Dr. Moldwin in New York (an IC specialist) mentioned to my doctor about a vaginal suppository for IC. I use this suppository, which is a compound prescription (a medication that is specially made, not all pharmacies will have this available to them) It is a Diazepam 10 mg suppository used for pain. It helps to relax my muscles. Diazepam is also known as Valium, which is a benzodiazepine, which is an anti-anxiety drug. I know it sounds weird but putting it in vaginally at night helps to relax pelvic muscles. If anyone has any questions let me know, but it is worth trying.

My urologist prescribed it to me. However it can be hard to find a pharmacy to make them for you.

My doctor in PA gives me the valium to use to relax the muslces in the pelvic area. I use it as a suppository. I also have an anxiety disorder which is what valium is most used for. I also will take one orally if I am having a panic attack. I don't think it is hard to find at pharmacies because it is very common for anxiety disorders.

Yes, I use them too for bladder spams. the ones I get are mixed with boric acid because I get lots of yeast infections.

Are these suppositories expensive? My insurance has a huge deductible so I would be paying out of pocket. I am going to my Uro today so I would like to bring this up.

With my co-pay I pay $10.00 for 60. I have also started using them for rectal spasms by advice from my pt.

Ive been using the vag supp for about two months now!!! I love them!!! a little messy, but worth it!!! helps me sleep so much better everynight!!! helps with the vag and bladder spasms. dont think i have an effects anywhere else, just works down there and relaxes it after being on my feet all day. I actually look forward to going to bed sometimes just to get the relief!!! Doc recommends one in the am and one in the pm, but i find its better if you are laying down for a while after insertion as it leaks out, and can be messy. Also, I have occassionlly become itchy from them, almost like yeast infection, need to be careful with this if you are prone to yeast infections, i am not, but if i feel like i am getting itchy, i sit in the warm bath tub and it seems to subside. I would not trade these for anything, I have found they really help me out.

Do these leak out a lot? I have trouble taking oral medications and my uro mentioned this one time and I declined at the time, but am thinking about asking now as some of my other meds stopped working. The problem is that when I have taken suppositories for yeast infections they leak out and I have to wear a pad, but I actually specifically started BC to stop my period since tampons and pads (even unscented) were so severely irritating my IC/urethra (I am almost positive it was those and not just my hormones because it was the only time I would get irritation closer to the outer part of my urethra instead of my usual deeper bladder pain.) He also mentioned it was more commonly used for sexual discomfort, but it seems like some of you have found general comfort from them too, right?

I love mine too. Are you having yours mixed with Boric acid? If not make sure you ask your Uro. Mine are 10mg valium and 500mgs boric acid. Boric acid is to stave off yeast infections.

they do leak out somewhat, but it is more of an slight oily consistency rather than just like liquid. it is white/clear in color. no odor. like i said in a previous post, i prefer to use them only at night, as once i get into bed i dont get up for at least and hour or so and it is melted by then and does not leak out that bad while lying down. when i get up in the am, i shower normally and dont have a discharge onto my pants at all. I have more problems with my prosed staining my underwear and toilets because of the blue dye, but these all work for me and i feel that blue "crotch" underwear and small amount of oily/white substance is a small price to pay. I have never worn a pad with it, as i am extremely sensitive to all types of pads. I hope this helps answer your question. As i said before I LOVE THEM!!! so glad that i have them, they help that area relax and i can sleep!!!!! and when i have been really really hot or real active somedays, i sometimes will get and itch just above the clitoris area. I use a very small amount of a steroid cream that night and its gone the next day.
you need to find a DISPENSING pharmacy....they are the ones who make them up. I live in mass and there is a few around, doc faxs the script, they call me for further info, fill it and mail it to me in a box with a cold pack, as they need to stay refrigerated. My uro just started using them, I was one of the first three pts he ordered it on, after it was recommended to him by some other uro's and PT's. since it was so successful with me and the other two, he plans to use it more.
Best of luck, i would recommend these to anyone who has spasms or pressure, it works for both of these on me. and have not gone down the "after sex" road yet, :tsk: my PT wants to hold off on sex for a little while longer....

Where are you in MAss? I am there too. I am very sensitive down there. Can you get it compounded with non chemical substances?? Where do you get it from? Also does it help with that burning feeling??

Im in northern Mass, near Lowell....Not sure about the chemical substances, I think it is just the baclofen, valium and lidocaine...but im not sure...I use Johnson Compounding Pharmacy in Waltham. very easy to deal with, like I said, doc calls in the script, they fill it and send it out to me next day in a box with a cold pack, refills work the same, have never had a problem, they are great to deal with. I use to have that burning/pressure feeling, but now I dont...I do know these supps. have helped me wonders. If i dont use it one night, i know it....If you and your doc decide to try them, sure hope it works for you, like it has worked for me!!!:flower:

I am in western ma. near Greenfield. Will they send out here? If you look a the box does it list filler ingredients?? I already use a compounding pharm for estrace cream so that there is only natural carrier.

Im not sure if they will ship out there, but I bet they would...Johnson Compounding and Wellness Center Waltham MA
They make the supp. themselves, not sure what the fillers are.....they come in a bag with just a script label, that says, baclofen, lidocaine and valium....does not have any other ingredients listed. sorry, cant be more specific. again, good luck, and if you do decide let me know!!!

I was curious as to what you all are using the vaginal baclofen/licocaine/valium suppositories for. Is it for vaginal pain, bladder pain, or pelvic floor spasms? It sounds like a better way to go than oral meds that are so systemic and cause so many side effects. Not many doctors are up on these types of suppositories so I'm trying to get as much info as I can for her.

I use mine mostly for pressure...pelvic floor dysfunction, bladder pain...it helps with spasms, lower back pain, vaginal pain. I my pelvic floor and lower abd all tighten up if I dont use it...and the pressure is very bad when I dont.. they have made a huge difference in my treatment...I feel they help me the most. Agreed with the better way to treat!!! goes right to the area....

Thanks for your reply. Does anyone use them daily? Or just when things get bad as needed? I'm really interested in trying them and if I can give my dr. as much info on these as possible she will be more apt to prescribe them.
In those of you that it helps do you also need to take your other bladder meds also, or are the suppositories enough?

My doctor prescribed them for twice a day, once in am and at bedtime...i find it hard to do in the am, I only do it at night when i climb into bed, every night!!!! especially after I have worked 10 hours all day on my feet!!! I only do the am one if Im in a flare....
And yes I continue to take my other bladder meds. Prosed DS 2 twice a day, Atarax 20 mg at night, and I still do DMSO instills...Im up to once every 8 weeks. was doing pelvic floor PT, but had to stop, could not keep up the co-pays...which angers me, because the PT def helped. I sure hope your doc will order them, they truly have been a blessing for me...allowing me a decrease in pain during the day so I can function.

Thanks for replying. I know what you mean about the PT. It helped me tremendously but the co pays were killing me even with really good insurance coverage. My dr. couldn't figure out why I wanted to discontinue them duh- I wasn't getting her uro gyno salary that's why! The suppositories sound like something I could use when I get an increase in symptoms. Right now my symptoms are pretty well managed but do have times where I feel I could use them- especially at night. I was never able to tolerate the Prosed. I got so dizzy and got such a horrible taste in my mouth that I quit eating and lost 12 lbs.in two months. I couldn't tolerate Atarax either so I take Benadryl and also a very small amount of Trimipramine. They both constipate me so had to add Miralax every other day to have a BM. My dr. calls me a medication nightmare-Ha
The sad part about it is I have never been constipated in my life until I started these meds. I also added a Quercitin supplement which I think has helped more than the other stuff. Thanks again.
