I have been very hesitant about saying "IM BACK IN REMISSION"... I don't want to jinx it, but I really don't believe in jinx.. so here goes......

I started a good probiotic about a week ago. I have been doing better each day. The past 3 days I have had ZERO IC SYMPTOMS!!! :woohoo:

It was a very tough 8 weeks. I developed several new IC symptoms, such as, lower back pain, nerve and muscle pain and yeast infection.

It feels so VERY GOOD to FEEL GOOD. :smile tee I hope I won't be back for a long, long time, except to say hello and send my prayers.

I :pray:PRAY FOR A PAIN FREE DAY FOR ALL MY FELLOW IC SUFFERER'S.

Cytotec has been a wonderful thing also. It has done wonders for helping my bladder pain and until last week's hydrodistention and bladder biopsy, I had not experienced any pain or symptoms for almost three months. Although the Cytotec seems to work for me, it doesn't come without side effects. I have a link posted below about it. Read or PM if you're interested. It is a fairly new concoction that is being used in the UK and now some U.S. doctors are using it although it is not approved by the FDA for treatment of Interstitial Cystitis.

What's a probiotic?

From Wikipedia: Probiotics are dietary supplements containing potentially beneficial bacteria or yeasts. According to the currently adopted definition by FAO/WHO, probiotics are: ‘Live microorganisms which when administered in adequate amounts confer a health benefit on the host’. Probiotic bacterial cultures are intended to assist the body's naturally occurring gut flora, an ecology of microbes, to re-establish themselves. They are sometimes recommended by doctors, and, more frequently, by nutritionists, after a course of antibiotics, or as part of the treatment for gut related candidiasis (Yeast). Claims are made that probiotics strengthen the immune system to combat allergies, excessive alcohol intake, stress, exposure to toxic substances, and other diseases.[2][4] In these cases, the bacteria that work well with our bodies (see symbiosis) may decrease in number, an event which allows harmful competitors to thrive, to the detriment of our health.

Hey, what are you using? I'd like to try it. I've started one about 5 days ago, but so far it's not doing anything to help my flare-up. How long did it take to start helping you?

I'm taking a All-Flora by New Chapter Organics. It's 6 billion live cells. I started out taking a dose in the am and pm. It was a little too much. I moved it to just in the AM. Now I'm at a dose every other day. I found it in the frig section of Whole Foods. I've been feeling so much better.

My major IC symptoms started calming down after just a couple days.

I'm not sure if the probiotics are what has helped me or if it's just the IC running it's course.

I am very interested in any info you could give me regarding interstem. My Uro recommended it at my last visit this week. I have severe case of IC. I take Elmirion, Elavil, Valium(for spasms), Vicodin(pain). He suggested that it is used for frequency(which I have) but he has seen good results with IC patients. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Does it hurt when they initially put wires in your backside to see if you might be a candidate? I am 52 in good health otherwise. Thanks

If you go to this link http://www.ic-network.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=97 and select new thread you can start a thread asking your questions about interstim. You will get many more responses there b/c that is the forum especially for interstim. You can also read other threads there that will answer some of your questions... I just didnt want your ?'s to not get answered b/c they are in the wrong place...The board can be a little hard to navigate when yuo first start using it..Hope this helped

Thank- you for telling me where to go for info regarding interstim. I am finding this IC Site, so helpful, but I do have trouble getting around. I don't know how to start a new thread. That info helped me tremendously. Thanks again and God bless everyone who takes the time to share their experiences to help us all. I pray for all on this site.

Tracy-I am responding to your comments below about your original diagnosis 20 years ago. This is such a scary illness because it is so unpredictable and unknown. Can you share anything about what might have brought you out of remission. Also, what is Interstim?

I have been recently diagnosed and am coming off of a 3 week flareup, I was originally diagnosed in May but my symptoms or original flareup began in mid March and then subsided.

I love your quote from the bible, God is the only one who can get us through this. I just pray that I can somehow use this unpleasant disease to help other.

Marilyn

Symptoms began about 1988 when I was 23 and I was diagnosed with mild/moderate IC. Symptoms became severe around 1998 after a couple years in remission. Interstim in 2002 and had great success with it with my freq/urg which in turn caused a reduction in my pain.

Life is very livable these days. I have been lucky and had great doctors through my illness that have been very supportive in getting me to this point.

What is impossible from a human perspective is possible with God.
