I do daily instills (the drugs vary on different days) and constantly have UTI's. I just emailed my doc asking for some prophylactic antibiotic to add to the instill cocktail since I am sick of taking oral antibiotics (one less pill a day is wonderful). What does everyone out there add to their instill as far as antibiotics go?

There are a lot of instillers that have problems with UTI and I am sure they will chime in. I don't have a problem with UTI so I don't need any antibiotics.

You might want to review the procedure with your doctor again. Are you using gloves? It might help avoid allowing any bacteria being instilled.

I do at home instills every week and have been getting UTIs. I have one now. I just had one four months ago. We are very sterile when I do my instills though. My hubby helps me, and we are very clean about it and do use gloves like Donna recommended. I still end up getting UTI's though.
As far a adding a antibitoic to the instill, my urogyne was against that. He said this would cause a bacterial resistance to the antibitoics, then if you ever do get a UTI again, the antibitoics will not work for you. He is also against prophylactic antibitoics for the same reason. I know your frustration believe me. If you find something that works, please let me know.

I do instills every 2 weeks at the urologist's office, but I bring in my own sterile wrap catheters. I didn't use gloves a few times being taught early on, but use gloves now. But, in either case, I haven't been biten by the UTI.
