Hello. I was diagnosed with ic 13 years ago. My Dr. left South Africa to live in the USA. I didn't bother looking for another one, because as far as I could see, there was nothing that would help me as far as medication goes, because what helped one person may not necessarily help another. So I have lived by the ic diet and tried to keep my pain to a minimum. I have maybe three or four times visited the ic-network letter boards to read how other people cope, but because I seemed to manage my pain etc, I really just kept to myself.

However for about 6 months now, I have endured unbelievable pain, and whatever I did just didnt seem to help. So I took the advice of a friend and went to see a urologist whom she had heard was very good.

He put me in hospital and did that procedure where they fill your bladder with water to stretch it, and which contained Elmiron. And I have also been taking Elmiron for about 3 weeks taking 0ne tablet a day, I am not sure right now how many mgs. I also started last week to take Lyrica, but found after 2 days it made me very dizzy, couldnt even drive my car, and had an awful headache. So I stopped taking that. At the same time he gave me something for constipation called Movicol which I took for three days. In the last couple of days I have been in a lot of pain especially if I am walking or standing a lot, I find after sitting and resting for a while the pain subsides a bit.

I know that I have not eaten anything I shouldnt, so I am now worried that it may have been either the Lyrica or the Movicol, although my Dr says it could not possibly be the Movicol. Oh I forgot, he also gave me something for pain called Synap Forte, of which I took two tablets two days ago.

If anyone with similar incidents can help me put my finger on the cause of my pain, I would appreciate it. But I guess, as usual, that it will be a case of trial and error. Oh how I wish they would find something that will be a "definite" help.

The usual elmiron dose is three capsules per day. And it can take six months or longer to become effective.

When did you have your hospital procedure (hydrodistention)?

It's easy to say this and always so much harder to do, but, you really have to try and see what works for you. The doctors will prescribe you so many medicines and it is up to you to sort through them all and see what is helping and what is not. IF I want to find out what is causing the side effect, i take everything as is, except on that day, i skip the suspected culprit. Then see how i feel. Next day, try it again with a different med. I know I am not certified to give such advice, this is however, what has worked best for me. There is a great combination of treatments out there just waiting to be found. Keep up the faith. Please feel better soon. My thoughts and prayers are with you .:smile tee:angel: This angel will help you sort things out.
