Is it normal to feel really tired throughout the day when you first started taking Elavil ?

Does it make you continously gain weight during the time you take it , or is that one of the beginning side affects ??

It is very common to feel tired when you first start taking it....
Thats what happened to me....but then once i got used to it i bumped up the dosage and i am fine....
the weight gain is just a side effect.....doesn't happen to everyone...not me and i am not the only one that hasn't.....
i hope this helps ya.....
and if you do find the side effects too much just talk to your doc about another antidepressant or whatever and go from there.....
take it easy

I take my Elavil in the evening because I do get tired about two hours after I take it. It is a little hard to get out of bed in the morning but after I get my shower I am fine for the rest of the day. It is worth giving Elavil a try because it has really helped my bladder discomfort. Just ask here if you have other questions. Linda

Yes, I felt tired during the day for the first couple of weeks, but it got much better. I don't feel any type of daytime tiredness from it now, unless I take it very late and have to get up early. At first I was sleeping about an hour a day more because of being on Elavil, but I'm not like that anymore at all (of course, I was at 75 mg then, and 25 mg now). I was really surprised at how it went away, I was super tired at first.

Most people that I've seen here have gained some weight, then plateaued, so it's not like continuous weight gain. That's what happened to me, though I think for me part of it was that I felt better, I wasn't afraid to eat anymore, and I quit taking pyridium, which made me really nauseous. So I can't really blame Elavil for gaining back the 20 lbs I'd lost when I first got IC! I think if you're very aware of what you're putting in your mouth, and steer away from the sweets you'll be okay.

Thanks for the advice , it has made me feel real foggy the last couple days I took it , I was just wondering if that gets better cause I work and have 3 kids , but as long as it gets better then its ok . And honestly I dont really care about the weight thing because usually Im under weight , but I already bought my wedding dress ( getting married next year ) so I just cant blow up like a blimp is all lol but I dont mind a couple pounds . Thank you for the help I appreciate it :)
