i just heard about the use of the TENS unit for treatment for ic so i was wondering if anyone knows anything about it? Like what kind of unit do you use? Did it work right away or did it take time? Were there any uncomfortable side effects? ect........

I used a TENS at PT and found it very helpful for pain. Don't know anything about the units themselves but I loved the result. It was not uncomfortable, and, in fact, it was a relief.

Hi..

I've been issued a TENS unit through worker's comp. I have found it to be very useful, although sometimes hard to put all the extra wire someplace - usually into my pants or into a pocket. There are lots of different kinds but usually your doc and your PT will decide what kind is best for you. There are different settings - constant, pulsating, intermittent...it all depends on what works for you. I like constant...it interrupts the pain signals that are being sent to your brain..

Hope this helps

I used the empi machine, which is very similar to the TENS unit. For me it caused my IC pain to get worse and put in a flare for over a week. I guess any type of stimulation makes me worse.
