Hi all!

I made an introductory post sometime back, but I wanted to post an update and also ask a few questions.

After trying me on medications for anxiety AND overactive bladder, my general practitioner really thinks that my problem is IC. I am seeing a urologist sometime next week (luckily one that my father, King of the Kidney Stone, often sees and is very fond of). I'm a little nervous about what sort of tests will be done, but I think I saw a board on here dedicated solely to that so I'll have to look into it.

I do have occasional pain - once or twice a month, I'll urinate and have an extreme burning sensation (almost like a bladder infection) afterwards. My main problem, however, is nocturia. I get up so many times during the night to pee it's ridiculous. I mean, I have frequent urination during the day (especially if I've had any sort of coffee or tea - sodas don't seem to bother me too much), but it's very frequent and urgent at night and has really disrupted my ability to sleep. It's like I get up and go to the bathroom and as soon as my head hits the pillow, the urgency strikes back. This has been happening to me since I was 17 (it literally seemed to have started overnight). I am now 22. Yeah. It's ridiculous.

Does anyone else experience nocturia as their main symptom?

Thanks in advance :hi: !

Yes! I do. Last night: up 9 times, the night before 12 times. It's driving me crazy and so far nothing has worked. I'd love to hear from people who have dealt successfully with nocturia....

Hi, I am sorry your waking up so much and I hope your doc gets it figured out for you soon. Have you looked at the IC diet to see if your eating anything or drinking anything that can be irritating your bladder and thats whats making you get up at night? I was waking up alot at night and I started on Elavil and Atarax, and that helped me so much with waking up at night. Now I only sometimes get up once. Unless I am in a flare, then I will wake up more then once but most nights I do not wake up at all anymore. I do however wake up early to go, but I sleep most nights without waking up. I hope you start to feel better and they can get you started on something to help you with that. That was never my main symptom. I always had frequency and pressure all the time. :) Lisa

Hey yep I always have to pee through the night and this is one of my biggest problems with IC. My urologist told me that this is very common with IC and a typical symptom!
i used to also have alot of pain but this is more controlled with my pain meds, but the frequency through the night is no better. I have tried allsorts of meds but its never improved. sometimes its worse than others but I tend to always have the feeling of needing to pee even when I have just been. This drives me crazy and I think alot of ladies on here also have that problem so you are not alone!!!
