Hi

I was just diagnosed 2 days ago with interstitial cystitis. Someday, I will write down my journey but this morning I am very angry and likely to be not so nice. I mean, for cripe sake, I'm only 23! I should not even have to think about my bladder! :cussing:

My doctor already made me an appointment for a Clorpactin instill next week. I am a bit scared because I have read a lot of unsavory things about this medicine, mostly because I had the wrong spelling until today. I read that you need to do it in several treatments at a 0.2% solution. The thing that worries me is I am not sure what percent my doctor is planning on using and also she said it would be 3 treatments done once a month. This is contrary to everything I've read on proper use. Should I get a new doctor or should I trust her? Please help me. :help:

I am so sorry you have IC. One thing to remember is you NEVER HAVE to do a treatment the doctor offers unless you feel comfortable doing it.
By all means if you want to get another opinion or two please do.

Please know we can all try to help you here the best we can.

Hang in there!!

I personally do not know many doctors who are knowledgable about IC do this type of instill anymore. There are other instills that are less irritating to the bladder like, heperin, lidocaine instills. These are meant to help calm the bladder down and help with pain. I remember reading somewhere that clorpactin is similar to like a bleach substance and seems like it would really be irritating to the bladder. I have never personally had one done using this solution, but hopefully someone else will chime in if they have more experience with this.

If you feel uneasy about this which it sounds you do, Please get a second opinion. There is a list of Drs here on the ICN that specialize in IC you could check them out. I was one that went to a Dr that had no clue about IC or what here was doing! I should have went with my gut and got a second opinion!

I just want to say that I am sorry that you have been diagnosed with IC. I also want to say that I am glad you found us and are posting. :)

I say ditto about being sorry you have been diagnosed with IC. I was 23 when I was diagnosed too. Please find a doctor that you can really talk to and trust. That treatment would be considered "old school" by my uro/gyno too.

I really wasn't expecting anyone to respond so quickly! Thank you all so much for your thoughts and words! I'm so used to being ignored...this was a nice change. :grouphug:

I am going to change doctors. It is not that I don't trust the one I saw who diagnosed me, it's that she is not a specialist. I'm sure you all can appreciate that there is a HUGE difference. If I had a "simple" bladder infection, I would do whatever she said. Instead, I'm going to go to Boulder and see Dr. Emilia Ripoll if I can get in. I'm not sexist in any way, but I would rather have a woman doctor. Women's hands are smaller...think about it :D.

Thanks again,
