I've had IC now for a long time...just that the diagnosis was done in June 2007. Since then i've been trying to get pregnant and now I am. I was told that the IC pain mostly goes into remission during pregnancy, but it's gotten worse. At first the flare happened once every month...and then the frequency just kep increasing. I'm in my 31st week now....and it's getting really difficult to deal with the IC pain every week along with the other 3rd trimester pregnancy issues. I'm also concerned about whether it's better to go for vaginal birth or a c-section taking IC into consideration. I've already had a C-sec with my first daughter whose 4 now. Please suggest what's better??

well i have always heard that ic symptoms become better with some women during pregenancy but it can be worse with others, so u must seek with ur doctor the ways to keep you comfortable throughout the pregenancy, and you have to discuss with ur ob/gyn the best descision about the delivery, but i for example had a natural delivery... hope u feel better soon
I developed IC during the first month of pregnancy. The symptoms were severe the first trimester and mild to moderate the last 2 trimesters. The doctor and I debated whether or not to have a c-section. I also had gestational diabetes, a narrow pelvis, and PFD to consider. We decided on c-section. We were worried that a prolonged labor would put too much strain on the bladder and pelvic muscles; plus, we didn't want to end up with an emergency c-section if the baby was too large to deliver. I don't know whether vaginal delivery would have been better for the IC. I do know that the c-section made my PFD a lot worse, which didn't help the IC.
Is your doctor even willing to consider a VBAC? Many aren't. I ope that everything goes well. Hang in there--not too much longer.

Hi-
I elected for a c section and am glad I did. I have severe IC and PFD, it was the right choice for me. I would look at the details since the risk with VBAC is high as well, many make you sign waivers just to do them, so it might be best to go with a c section. My IC got worse with pregnancy too. Hang in there....My little one is 6 mo and I am having a ball!

Hi I have mild to moderate IC usually. I had it before getting pregnant. I did not feel that well pregnant but I survived. First kid was a c-sec after 37 hours labor due to head at strange angle not opening cervix. Some how the labor pain overode the IC. The IC was not that bad at the end of the pregnancy due to probably relaxing hormones. Nursing was better (more relaxing hormones) so no matter what you do if you nurse then those hormones I think are helpful. Then the second kid was a vbac. I think the pelvic floor issues made labor really bad but then I gave up and had an epidural and then things happened really fast (total 17 hours) and the epidural blocked all the pain! I had to have an episiotomy (get baby out fast) which I think now a days they are not doing too much. I have been having visceral manipulation of late and the naturopath claims that the c-sect had caused my uterus to adher to the bladder. I did not feel that the IC after all this got any worse until a few years later.

Vaginal Birth After C-section
gone are the days when docs believed "once a c-section, always a c-section". my son was c-section in 1983 (because he was a few ounces under 11 lbs!), my daughter was vbac in 1985 because she was more than 2lbs smaller. :)
ps...no such thing as a stupid question. :smile tee
