Im seriously starting to think about getting a hysterectomy ... I dont have endo but my periods are horrible !!!! I have been on seasonique for 3 yrs now and I have break through bleeding alot and I get soooo sick !!! It aggravates my already intense pain , makes me nauseous or have no appetite at all , dizzy , completely out of sorts and beyond exhausted !! Plus it kicks up my spasms . I have vicodin from the ER but its not even touching my pain and discomfort right now ( or in general ) I cant stand , I cant sit comfortably . I get really bad hotflashes and sweats when I get my period and to use a heating pad actually makes me so hot I feel sick . Tried ice but as soon as I let myself thaw its right there again !!! Its times like these I truly dislike being a woman !!

I am so sorry! Have you talked to your doctor about this? Maybe he/she can change your meds for you?
I wish I could do something to help!
Hang in there!!

I'm sorry you're going through such a difficult time. Perhaps the birth control med you are on is contributing to your issues at the moment? I know many on here have issues with birth control pills and hormones in general. Trust me, having a hysterectomy will not solve the problem - nor will it help with the IC issues.

(((((((((((((((((((biggest hugs))))))))))))))))) Feel better soon - and definately call your doctor to discuss how you're feeling.

What Brittany said is exactly what my doctor said, plus unless you meet the criteria to have a hysterectomy, most insurance companies will not approve it. I begged for a hystorectory since every month when I ovulated, my pain level was unbearable. That is why my doctor stated me on the depo shot. I had horrible pain during the time I ovulated, but not during my actual period. That was a relief big time for me. I don't know what the difference in the continuous birth control versus having your period every 3 months is, but for me, I had practically instant relief.

I talked to my regular gyn about it but she just ignores me when I tell her I have really bad periods , which is why Im not going to see her anymore !! Im seeing a urogyn for the first time this thurs and I hope he can help me with all or at least most of my issues !!! Im wondering if maybe after being on this continuous BC for so long that I might need a D and C ? I get really bad clotting all the time ! Thank you for the concern Ill let you know if I get somewhere on thurs ( fingers and toes crossed !!! lol )

I think that my BC should probably be switched even if only because its not doing anything for me ( duh lol) My old gyn suggested the Depo shot too , but Im kind of afraid of it ? I had 2 or 3 friends w bad experiences w it , but then again I have been on several types of BC and none of them have bothered me thus far ( I probably just jinxed myself lol ) I do meet most of the requirments of getting a hysterectomy BUT Im afraid of how it will affect my horomones or if it will make everything worse ? Plus I get ovarian and cervical cysts ALL THE TIME which I thought that was supposed to stop or at least rarely occur w BC but apparently not !!! Im just so frustrated w feeling like crap all the time !!! Question ? I get horrible , horrible clots w my period as well . Is it possible that after all this time being on continous BC that I might need a D and C ? Does anyone have any experience w those ?

I know just how you feel. I have wanted a hystorectomy since the age of 11 which is when mine started. Was just thinking that this morning while laying in bed waiting for the vidocen to at least kick in a little bit. Did later on some but like 3 hours. Sometimes I think my period problems are worse then the IC. I have always had the clots, some really big and heavy heavy bleeding. Would spend most of my time on the toilet because of the two. birth control helped me a lot but I didn't want to have they pap test done anymore so they wouldn't let me have it. There is a procedure that I don't know the name of. My gyno told me about it 2 years after the IC but you can't have kids if you have it done. They do something to the lining of the Uterus and that either stops the periords or slows down the cramping or something. You would have to ask your doctor about it. I would do it now if I wasn't so old. Thinking menapause should start some point and I don't feel good enough to have surgery. Not supposed to be a big deal but still have to be put to sleep for it. I also get the dizzy, fainting, tire, sick, sweating thing too. I'm either cold at night so I put the blanket on then I sweat so kick it off. Back and forth and I also feel so bloated that my stomach will pop and it isn't from the IC. Plus I get diarrehea. Hope you get something that will help you. One thing I have found that helps is using tampons. I never could use them before because they were painful but figured out 1 year ago how to use them. They help to slow down the bleeding and I don't have so many clots too.

I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this. I hope you find relief.
Maybe another opinion would be good from another doctor.

Wishing you well

All the things you mentioned I also have a problem with ... I use tampons IF I can get them in . I never had this problem before but the worse my pain gets I just cant use them .... It causes horrible pain ( sometimes spasms ) and Sometimes I just cant get them in , its like they are hitting a barrier or something , weird . Im sure this is something most people never say or hear , but I hope your menopause starts soon , if thats what will help you feel better !!!!

Have you tried switching your bc pills? I was taking ortho-cyclene and tri-cyclene forever, and when I switched over to Yaz (not Yazmin- there is a slight difference) my pms, cramps, and even the flow got way better. Yaz only gives you 3 days of the placebo pills, causing your period to be really short. After about 3 months, now I only get slight pms, almost no cramps, and the flow is so slight that I almost dont need to even wear a pad (and I used to need to wear the overnight pads for 5 days straight). The down side is that since it is so light, some months you might not even see it at all- so if you are taking it for "real" birth control, then you might get a little freaked out thinking you are pregnant. But if you are taking it to help prevent/reduce endo (like me) then that is not a bad trade off. That bothered me the first month it happened, but the gyno said its normal for it to almost go away or be barely there. Now I just keep some home tests in case I do have a little "freak out" moment, hehe. BTW- my gyno gave me like 6 sample boxes to try- so it saved in money too- ask if they have sample! I still get IC flares when I am on my period, but no where near as bad before.

crkshnks79, it always felt like I hit a brick wall and the tampon wouldn't go in too! I found that it has to go in part way and then down and then towards the back. that is why the applicators never worked. Have you tried doing it yourself without the applicator? Plus I use the OB tampons. they are a lot smaller around and length. I had accidents with them sometimes but nothing like I would have without them. You will be the first one I invite to my "menapause party" ok? :)

I have noticed that you have to manipulate it to get in there , Like I have to put it in up and then back . But I never had pain while using them before and my body was never as resistant ... and I have been using them for 15 yrs now . And Yes I want an invite !! Just make sure there are some fans around for those pesty hotflashes lol

Thank you ! Ill def ask my new doc , because I think its time for a change of BC !! They put me on seasonique because of my really bad periods ( they thought I had endo , but had a laprascopy done and I dont have ) but I still get sick every time I menstrate .

I was on Loestrin FE for a year and loved it. I felt great, no side effects from the pill, and my periods were a breeze. In fact, after a few months I hardly had a period at all. Unfortunately my breast surgeon really wanted me to discontinue them due to my having an increased risk of breast cancer, so I did. Now my periods are ugly again, but not so bad as they were before I started Elavil for my IC. The Loestrin FE is another one you might want to discuss with your doctor, it did not affect my IC negatively at all.

Regarding the tampon issue, I really struggled with this after I developed IC. I always felt so uncomfortable with one in, which makes sense seeing how close the bladder and vagina are. However, I found that I can use the Tampax Pearl. They are shorter, which seems to help (the other kind always seemed like they were falling out). The wrapping is not flushable, which I feel kind of bad about from an environmental perspective, but I'm glad to be wearing Tampons again! I tried the Diva cup and did okay with it, but could never get it to come out comfortably - it was always messy and painful.
