I'm having some urgency?
Is this normal after a cystectomy?
I'm confused as to why this is happening and will it go away or is this how it will be for the rest of my life? I've only been going every 2-2.5 hours can't seem to make it to 3 hours. I'm drinking the amount of fluid I am supposed to?

Kara,
I noticed there weren't any posts to your message. I hope someone can help you. All you need is another setback to deal with on top off your recovery.
Good luck,
Jaime wink.gif
Jaime,
Thank You for replying......
I'm hoping it was just a bad day. I lost my job for sure today and met my darn replacement over the phone to call in for my LTD paper work.
It sucks when you work so hard at college, get sick (to where your co-workers and boss don't believe you) and then you lose the job.
I have a heavy heart today.
I see my doctor tomorrow maybe he can shed some light on the issue. The only time I had any urgency today was when I tried to take a nap.
Thanks Again Jaime,

Kara, you are still in the early stages of recovery. It will take months for things to settle down and get the point where you wont be worriyng so much about every symptom. You will continue to have good days and some not so good days. Please accept it as part of the healng process. If things get really out of hand or you have trouble dealing with things do not hesitate to call your doctor- that is what they get pain for! Good luck. Kara,
Hang in there. Sorry about the job loss, I'm sure that is very upsetting. Now you just need to focus on your recovery. Could the urgency be phantom symptoms? The surgeon I spoke to about surgery said that phantom pain was possible so I figure that phantom urgency can happen also.
Are you drinking quite a bit more water than you were before the sugery? If your forcing fluids you could just need to empty more than normal.
I think of you everyday and look forward to hearing about your progress. In the long run hope it will help me with my decision. My gastro said today that since my crohns disease is only in the large intestine he feels that my small intestine could still be used for the neo-bladder.
I hope tomorrow is a better day! Kim

Hi Kara, Sorry I can't help with the medical part but I can definately relate with the loss of your job after working so hard. And when your fellow workers and others don't beleive you it is very frustrating. I went through the same thing when I lost my job after some 11 years. We did not ask for this illness and we certainly do not deserve it so their ignorance will have to be their problem not ours. You concentrate on you for now. Sorry and know you are in my prayers. Glad you are posting. Love and hugs Carol <img src="graemlins/kissing.gif" border="0" alt="[kissing]" />

Since I had my cystectomy I have had the occasional slight phantom urge to urinate. Normally, however, I have no sensation at all. The only way I know that my pouch needs emptying is when I feel the pressure of it against my leg. I can go up to four hours but it is really bulging by then. I normally empty it every two to three hours. I gave up using the night drainage bag as I kept rolling on to it. Instead I set the alarm for four hours which means I have to get up once a night. In fact I normally awake before the alarm goes off. Getting up once is no hardship, especially when I remember being on a frequency of every fifteen minutes.
My stoma equipment is in two parts. There is a flange with a hole in and this goes over the stoma and sticks to my abdomen. Then I have a clip on pouch which collects the urine. I change the flange once a week and the pouch twice a week.
I appreciate that you are a little worried but it is still very early. Give it time to settle and I'm sure will be ok.Anyway, it has to be an improvement on IC.
Regards, Jim Beech
It was phamtom and should go away soon as I recover.
