I have been following the IC deit very closely for quite a few mos now. I am compulsive I carry a copy with me and I give copy to my freinds who may have us over to eat. Once I got the IC under control I started expirementing with foods. I have found I can eat no citrus at any time in any way shape or form, it causes instant problems for me.

I have found when symptoms are good I can eat most things in mmoderation, but having said that I have not tried pop, chocolet, tea, don't really feel I need to consume thse things so I have not tried them.

Best of all for me is I can eat most non citrus fruit, and veggies.

I can drink 1 small watered down coffee a day, I am almost worse if I don't drink it I retain fluid, and the 1 cup is enough of a duretic that I don't seem to have a problem.

I can not, I repeat can not, eat any of the do not eat from the list and only some of the maybes, (these are harder to figure out. ) whenI am flaring.

I think other things ussally cause flare to many to list.

I think the diet is a god send, I find it gives me lots of releif.

People if you are unsure about a food or medication, ask here before taking it, it may save you from alot of pain.

I wrote this to encourage newbie how important the diet is and that just because you can't eat thing to begin with it does not mean you will never eat it again.

i've found the Ic diet to be extremely important for me too.

Like you, I've learned that once I had my symptoms under control I could indulge in various foods in moderation.

One thing I would warn against is what I've dubbed the 'cumulative effect' I've noticed there are many things I can have- as long as I've had no other problematic foods recently, and I'll come through it just fine. At first thought, one might think that the particular food or drink choice holds no consequences with IC. Not so!

It's really like walking a tight-rope. If all is well, I can have tomato, some strawberries. I can have some chocolate. Some soda. Macaroni salad, Even a pickle or jalapeno! But if I try to combine these items at any one time nothing good comes of it!

Yes I agree it is the cumulative effects that gets you. Some allergies are like this too, if I have not had anything I react to I sometimes can get away with a bit. The diet is such a big thing but it is so tricky finding out exactly what is right for you, sometime you think you have got it and it bits you.

In 1975 when I was diagnosed there wasn't much thought given to diet having any effect on IC. I found food triggers on my own, but it took a long time. Interestingly, almost all of my triggers are listed as problem foods on the IC diets that are available now.
