Is anyone using Elmiron for installations? I had one two days ago (since we are unable to get Heparin) and have been in pain ever since.

Thanks,

Linda (ethnograph)

I tried that two years ago and nothing except it made the pain worse too. think because of the cath. Just used the last of the heparin at Uro's this week so not sure if they can get anymore either. Pretty bad I say when americans cannot get their medicines they need. If a disaster happened how hard would it be to get any then?

Abraxis is the manufacturer for the heparin my pharmacist found. He said it was hard to find one since the Baxter recall.

A couple months ago, I also had an Elmiron installs, and I had the same reaction. Actually the first on was not bad because we only used one pill, but the second one she used 2 pills and I was in pain for a couple days. I don't do them anymore because of that.

Hey everyone,

I've had a few Elmiron instillations now, and I can tell whether they are working or not. I'm not seeing a ton of difference in my symptoms. I don't want to continue these if I'm not seeing any results. Any advice would be appreciated.

The worst part is I dont know if it is the elmiron or the Vesicare seeing as how I was put on that 2 Weeks ago. Ugh I wish there was something I could do.... The last instill I was shown how to do my own, and I hurt so badly after for three days urethral wise that I haven't had the guts to try one myself since. I'm so sorry you are having a bad experience. The only way to know if the vesicare is causing you symptoms is to stop it for a day or two and see how you feel. I am very sensitive to meds bladder wise, and most cause me symptoms. In the meantime do you have any Prosed, Urelle, Uristat (OTC), or AZO (OTC)? The OTC ones can be used short term (a couple of days). The Prosed, and Urelle can be used every day, but you need a script. I hope you feel better soon.

I had a hydro instill two days ago,no elmiron or heparin.I'm in so much pain.I don't know if I should do them.I did call walgreens and they can get heparin. My dr's nurse says he doesn't want to use it cause of the recalls. But if thats whats helping the bladder why not use it?
I'm sorry your going through the pain too.
Hang in there

I use instills that are 20 cc of sterile water in a sterile urine specimen cup, contents of 2 emptied out Elmiron capsules, 6 ml of 8.4% Sodium Bicarbonate for injection and 12 ml of 2 % Liodocaine for injection. Swirl around to mix and draw up into a 60 cc syringe with catheter tip. I add about 4 ml of air to clear the instill from the catheter, so you get it all. Void before the instill and let any urine drain out when the catheter is put in before you attach the syringe and then do the instill. You keep it in at least an hour. I leave it in 2 hours. I take some pain meds with water a 1/2 hour before I urinate it out, so my urethra is not sore then. Then I rinse myself off down there with water and go to bed. It works for me. The next day I rinse myself off with a water soaked kleenex each time I void (after drying myself) and dry again. My urethra is always sore for at least until mid afternoon the next day. I take pain meds if I need to. I try to drink more water.
