I have a mild case of IC. I was diagnosed a year ago. I am doing quite well. I am very lucky that only a few foods bother my IC. When I do get flares they are not real bad. Uncomfortable for a few days --feels like you have a bladder infection. I have found corn silk tea to help me. It seems to be really soothing for me. The one thing I wonder about do others seem to retain water at times when you have IC. I don't know if this is part of the IC or not. Thanks for any answers:

Glad to hear you are doing well.

I've personally not noticed any retaining water with my IC. I do notice that when I flare my lower belly tends to swell, but I suspect thatt's more inflamation than water retention.

I do have alot of swelling when I flare just as Vicki mentioned. I think that is because the bladder is inflamed. I seem to retain water alot, so I do not no if this is a part of IC or not.

Your case sounds very similar to my own, I was dx'd last year, too, and, also, with Painful Bladder Syndrome, which my doctor said is a mild form of ic. I have ups and downs, too. I usually just take some baking soda and watch my diet very carefully for a few days.
I don't retain water, at least not that I've noticed but I will pay more attention in the future.

Fluid retention in body tissues is not usually a part of IC. You might want to have a look at your sodium intake to see if you can cut back a little there. It's not a good idea to take soda if you're retaining fluid --- it's too high in sodium.
