Hey, I just wanted to express my experiences right now. Whenever I have sex I am so worried I will get a bladder infection. Then the next day I am not sure it is a bladder infection or I am just flaring. I'm dating a wonderful new guy and I am afraid I will scare him off. I feel like I don't even want to date him because he deserves to be with a woman who can have sex more than once a week.

This is aways a hard one to tell. If you have a confirmed case of IC then it is prob just a flare from sex. But I would talk to your dr about this because some people are prone to UTIs after sex, So you might need a mild antibotic for after sex to prevent UTIs.

From my own experience, my ic symptoms usually get worse and more intense due to an increase in inflammation and irritation in my lower abdomen and nerve sensitivity. I also get a crampy achy feeling in the surrounding area for several days after a sexual encounter and then I go back to having the normal baseline symptoms. I'm just happy that I can experience this joy once again even if the pain it causes exceeds the minimal joy I get out of it, I still go for it because I wasn't able to engage in anything sexual for over 3 years. Usually with a bladder infection you have a lot of pain and burning upon urination. Asking your doctor for some anti's and taking one after sex will ward off an infection. Enjoy it whenever it is possible and don't feel guilty. Explain your situation to him and if he cares enough he will understand and not want to hurt you or make you suffer more than you can cope with. I know that there is the fear of losing him, but that won't happen if he cares. I don't think you should inflict a lot of pain on yourself to please anyone if your own well-being is compromised. You're very considerate and caring and you deserve a good man who will also be considerate and sympathetic toward your situation.
