Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Judith, I am 46 years old, married with two grown sons. I also work part time. I currently have a continent urostomy which I have had for 10 years, prior to that I had an ileal conduit for 6 years and I also had an augmentation cystoplasty. I am also a certified ostomy visitor, Just wanted to let you all know that I have experience with the main bladder surgeries that are being done and would be happy to answer any questions. Judith

I would like to welcome you as the moderator to this great site. Appreciate all of your efforts. I will try to help as much as I can also in between the horrendous flares I am having.

I have a question for you, I also had an augmentation and now have an ileo conduit. Was just wondering why you ended up with a continent urostomy and are you happy with it more so than the ileo conduit?? I wish I would have opted for a neobladder but unfortunately my urethra was so diseased with IC so that wasn't an option. Thanks for all of your help, God Bless you.

Yvonne, to answer your question the reason I converted was because my conduit was not functioning properly. The urine was sitting in there and pooling and then growing bacteria. For some reason there was minimal peristalsis sso I needed a revision and my surgeon told me I had the option of getting a continent urostomy. I jumped at the chance! I love it!!!!!!! I find it easier to care for as well as having fewer skin problems. It is also cheaper to maintain. Judith

Hi Judith,

Thanks for answering my question, appreciate your answer. I am sure a continent urostomy would be a lot better.
I have another question for you, can't remember if I asked you or not, are you still having pain??

God Bless

Yvonne, I never really had much IC pain. Towards the end I did have urethral pain, but once they removed my urethra the pain was gone. I do have chronic abdominal pain from adhesions, which I keep controlled by taking Darvocet or Percocet (which I break in half). My doctor does not want me to take any NSAIDS because I have history of ulcers, so that is why I take those prescription pain killers, cause lets face it,Tylenol just doesn't cut it, LOL!
