View Full Version : Any meds help with bloating?

My most bothersome symptom is pain, with a close second being bloating - the frequency issue doesn't even hold a candle to the first two.

My doctor wants to put me on Elmiron (oral as well as instills) and Elavil, though he is open to trying something else if I feel strongly about it.

Has anybody had any luck reducing bloating with meds?

Thanks!!

I used to get really bloated all the time, I think alot is my IBS with the bloating to, but if your constipated at all, you will probably be more bloated, I learned that to. If I do not go to the bathroom for like 2 days, the bloating will start, but if I keep myself regular, thats not really a problem for me.

This is probably going to sound like a "duh" question, but what do you do for your IBS? Do you eat high-fiber foods, or do you take medication, such as a stool softener?

I am IBS-C as well, but have found that I cannot tolerate any whole grains, raw veggies, nuts, or any really fibrous foods, as they cause great intestinal pain and gas. I feel much better when I eat really easy to digest foods. While I go at least once a day, I feel I have some issues with incomplete evacuation.

Hi, I am the same as you, I will get really gassy. I have to watch what I eat to. For my IBS I take a ducolax stool softener and MOM about 3 times a week, if I really need to go and its been days I sometimes take a ducolax stiumlant laxative but my doc said thats ok. I only need them if nothing else works. And also, they make me feel like I empty better. Do you take any pain pills? Some make me very gassy and cause extreme bloating! I mean bloating to the point where nothing fits and I look pregnant. So I have to be careful. :)

Fen...Take a look at Heather's Organic Acacia Fiber which you can find on this site in the ICN Shop. There are some here who have found it to be of help with their IBS symptoms.

Here is a link to this product: http://www.icnsales.com/Heathers-Tummy-Care-mid-20-p-1.html

Hi, Thanks Sharon!!!!! That looks like something that I could REALLY use, I never seen that, wow, thank you much. I am going to try that. MOM makes me feel yukky sometimes, it doesn't taste very good. lol

I would look into treating it as IC belly or IBS. IC belly may be helped by antihistamines and IBS...easier to prevent than treat but gas ex has helped me. Something I need to have in my flare kit.
Beano, peppermint, and or hyosamine before I eat anything. Probiotic, and if already flaring gas ex....relaxation, and some herbs that can help you release gas....but name is slipping my mind.
Sharon's link is full of great things!! :) Totally loved healther's tummy tamers! Granted I would like some better ideas for when the gas has already built up besides gas ex but hopefully that will come! :grouphug:

Hi Katrina, that may be why mine had gotten better. I take Atarax. I did not know Antihistamines help. I am learning alot from this thread. :)
