Question On Flare and Hydro..

Hi guys.

I am having a second hydro and cysto this friday. The first time I had one..it seemed to help my symptoms for a while so I am doing it again.

My question is this..I have been in a horrible flare since Sunday....can I ask the doc to put something in the hydro that would help? Can they do a hyrdo and use rescue instill stuff?

I think that is a good question to ask the doctor. Give him a call and see what he says.

I have heard of some members getting some kind of instill done while they are having a hydro done but I don't know what they have instilled or if all dr's do this. I only had one hydro done to diagnois me and since it didn't help me I doubt I would have another one unless my bladder got alot worse and the dr wanted to take a second look.
I def agree with Sharon that I would call the dr's office to find out if this is something they can do for you.
I don't know if you're on pain meds on a regular basis or not but if you're not I would also make sure that you're going to be given pain meds to take home with you since I'm guessing you're going to be in pain between the flare that you're already having and the hydro.
Maybe if they don't add anything to your bladder during the hydro then they can get you started on rescue instills shortly after the hydro if that is something that you would be interested in.
Regardless of what you and your dr decide, I hope the hydro goes well for you and please get on the boards when you feel up to us and post to let us know that you're okay and how it went. :grouphug:

I usually have a steroid irrigation after a hydrodistention. It does help with post-op pain.

Hello all,

I just had my first Hydro distension yesterday...and I survived!!

My urologist gave me IV Levaquin prior to my procedure and once he was done sctretching my bladder, he injected Lidocaine, Marcaine, sodium bicarbonate(I believe), and Heparin....He mentioned he was going to give me a B&O suppository as well post-procedure...

But he told my husband the procedure did not go as well as he had hoped....He said I have a "baby bladder" and could only get 500cc into my bladder where he wanted to get 2 to 3 liters.....He also took a biopsy of an uclerative area....

I am feeling better....I still have to void alot(which I figured would be normal), but my urine is finally a light pink in color and I have better control of my urine stream which I didn`t yesterday(took me forever to urinate)...

He put me on Macrobid(antibiotic) and Darvocet N-100 for pain which is helping me greatly.....

I see the urologist in 3 weeks....I am wondering what is going to happen now....I don`t like the fact he could only get 500cc in....but I am taking it one day at a time....

I don't think that 500cc is all that unusual for a bladder with IC. The Uro who diagnosed me with IC using the cysto/hydro could only get 550cc in my bladder and that is while under anesthesia.

I also had my second hydro a few weeks ago and the doctor put meds on my bladder also.I can't remember what they were though sorry......
