Has anyone had the surgery for the vaginal opening and also have the generalized vulvodynia (I have the itching and constant burning along with the vestibulitis also)? I am considering this surgery but I am worried about what it can do for the rest of my vulvodynia issues. I have heard it can worsen the other. Is this true? I have also heard it is a very quick healing area so I wonder if the generalized just goes back to how it was after it heals except the vaginal opening would be better? Basically it feels raw everywhere down there at all times. I also wonder if the surgery could help the rest of it because maybe it's referred pain from the vestibulitis since my vestibulitis started first? I would love to get some feedback from others who have been through this and have both. Thanks, Ann

Hi there I had a vestibulectomy this past September I have both vestibulitis and vulvodynia, I did however never had painful sex, so to some people it may seem unusual to have the surgery, well it wasn't for me, it did help get rid of most the pain at the opening of my vagina, I had a feeling it wouldn't get rid of everything, but it did help alot I would have to say, if it is mostly vestibulitis then the results are very good! the post surgery was a bit rough for me, it took about a good 3 months for me to feel better I was quite tender there for awhile everyone heals differently. I hope this helps you some.

My VV was completely healed up by using a steriod cream called chromolyn. I had it both injected directly into the vestibule area (not as bad as it sounds) and rubbing a cream around externally. I used Dr. Kellogg who works for Dr. Whitmore's office in Philadlephia. She is a VV whiz. Maybe your doctor can contact her for advice. I was completely raw down there and after four long months, did heal nicely. I don't know anything about the surgery you asked about. There is also a med called Traumeel that my doctor has had great success with - but did not help me. If the chromolyn didn't work, we were going to do a capsacian treatment. I guess it is still considered experimental, but it basically shuts down the nerves down there somehow. Anyhow, I guess I'm trying to say there are still alot of treatment options available before surgery, and maybe your doctor is not aware of them. Hope this helps.

I haven't had the surgery, but, when I was diagnosed a few weeks ago the doc said that in his opinion it helps about 60% of the patients he's worked on. However My case is too complex for the surgery. Hope this helps.

I was cured with N-acetyl glucosamine and sporanox (treats non-candida yeast). I never had any sort of discharge and never cultured yeast but after 2 months of not even being able to sit in a chair my dermatologist said let's try it and in 48 hours all the burning was gone. It kept coming back. We had to retreat it off/on for about a year taking one every 3rd day then it finally left and never came back. The NAG I continue to take because in addition to getting rid of the sensitivity it also pretty much cured my fibro. The IC is still a huge issue but the vulvodynia isn't. I wouldn't have the surgery under any circumstances. I've talked to too many women that it helped for awhile but it all came back later.

Hi there ,was it a topical application or oral? I have had recurrent yeast infections I dont itch or get discharge but I do get very red down there when a yeast infection is developing.

NAG is an oral supplement and sporanox is an oral prescription drug for non-candida yeast. Non-candida yeast burns as opposed to itching/discharge is what my dermatologist said and that's how my case presented. I never had any itch or discharge, just incredible burning.
