I just went for Urodynamics testing and my new bladder can hold 500cc's before begining to spasm. Is this good or bad? Will it get bigger or is this big enough?

How much can your new bladders hold?

My old bladder could only hold 30cc's awake and 80cc's under so I guess 500cc's is really good for me?

Kara

Kara, you may want to ask you surgeon how much he intended your new bladder to hold. It really depends on how big they make it and what part of the bowel they used. My continent pouch can hold about 1,300 cc's. I know because I measure my output on a regular basis. When I had my bladder out it could only hold 30 cc's. My uro told me he made mine extra big and also my pouch is 10 years old.My pouch is also made out of my transvers colon. I am not supposed to let it get too full, I was told I should be cathing it when I have about 400-600 cc's in it. It usually only gets too full when I have taken Lasix which is a diuretic.Judith bunny

Hi Kara
So far my pouch can only hold 200cc. I am supposed to be able to stretch it quite a bit further though. It takes months and it has only been 6 weeks. How often do you have to cath? I have to every 2 hours or less. I'm anxious for it to get bigger!
Take care, Julie grouphug

My bladder is 8 months old, so I suspect it will be able to hold much more with due time. I did hold 1050cc's once but it was due to drinking some tea I thought I would try because my old bladder is gone. I have had an infection for so many months now I can't remember when it started. I suspect that I could only hold 500cc's because of the infection. Once they get rid of the infection, I may be able to start holding more. At the present moment, I cath every 4-5 hours. Usually between 3 and 4. Time will tell :) .

I'm glad you are doing so well Julie!!!

This is probably a stupid question....but I don't know a thing about cc's...how do they correlate to ml's? I keep a diary of course but the measurement cup I use is just a plain old baking one in cups or ml's. I am using ml's. Is there a measuring cup for cc's? and should I be using that instead. One of my problems with this one is that the smallest measurement is 1/4 cup/50ml's & most of the time when I go it is only maybe a quarter that ammount. Is there someplace I can find a cup with smaller measurements? I am NOT going to take measuring spoons into the bathroom with me...lol.
Thanks,
Dawn

Dawn, a ml is the same as a cc.

Thanks Donna! How embarrassing...lol. Now I guess I just need to scout around for a better measuring cup. I'm getting tired of guessing how much I've gone. And Kara, btw, 500ml's sounds like a great improvement now that I understand how much that is! Thats way over a measuring cup which I can't imagine being able to hold. COngratulations!!! :)

When I had my Bladder It only held a Pint of Urine. So I was going to the Bathroom about 45 times a day and about that much at night! Thannk God for my Urostomy!Do you have a Cecum -cysto plastic bladder! Which is Part Bowel and Part Bladder. I had that done before my Urostomy! I will take the Urostomy any time.

I have what is now called a Neobladder.
The neobladder allows select patients to void naturally through the urethra. The neobladder, also known as 'continent orthotopic urinary reconstruction', appeals especially to younger patients who wish to avoid a stoma on the abdomen and/or wearing an ostomy bag. In many cases those with neobladders learn how to completely empty their bladders and do not require intermittent catheterization.

I cath myself every 4 hours.
