Does Elavil taken long-term actually improve bladder symptoms, or does it just mask them? Anyone had the experience of taking Elavil, and being able to reduce or discontinue it after some time? Thanks.

I am taking a low dose of elavil for many purposes. When I stopped, I started getting my migraines again as well as my sense of urgency increased. For me, I guess it works...not sure but it helps with my migraines so my doc had me continue again.

Hope this helps..

If your asking does it help heal the bladder prob not..But when I was on it, It helped my pain greatly. If you are wanting something that will help heal your bladder or make your symptoms better. You might want to look at Elmiron, or a natual supplement like Glucosamine. And diet is very important also..

Yeah since its an antidepressant it probably won't do anything to the bladder say like the elmiron does......
But its not that it masks it its just like a painkiller type thing.....
you don't feel the bad stuff......which i think hey if it helps me be a person again and not just an attachment for the toilet then why not take it?
thats my opinion...
i hope you find relief whatever you use...

Elavil is used for a lot of things, one of them being long term pain management...the other thing I use in conjunction with that is tylenol arthritis as my doctor told me (for my situation) that it is safe for me to use daily with the elavil to help manage the pain better with less side effects...

the IC diet is amazingly helpful if you aren't doing that already...but the elmiron (for example) helps to mimic the GAG lining of your bladder so Elavil doesn't do that type of thing...it just really does more pain management/helps relax you etc.
