View Full Version : BC pill switch causing problems? How does the hormone level affect the bladder?

I recently switched from Seasonale to Lybrel, which is the new pill you take constantly - you never have a period. My periods are so bad for my IC that I just don't want them anymore.
I know Lybrel has a lower dose of hormones than pills like Seasonale, but I was told this would be good for my IC by the nurse I was talking to about switching. However, I've noticed recently that my bladder seems more sensitive. The last few days I haven't been FLARING flaring, but if I drink a little too much my bladder feels funny, and I'm having to pee a lot at night (before I go to bed - I'm not waking up to pee yet). My bladder just feels off.
Anyone know if this could be due to the BC change? I'm confused over how hormones affect flares...

the hormones in lybrel isn't much different than seasonale.....
Hormones affect some women......sometimes its the estrogen and sometimes progesterone.....
Sometimes its other stuff in the pill that can make ya flare----sometimes they put too much sugar as an additive......
But the estrogen isn't much different between those two pills so maybe you could be flaring from the progesterone.......
Really the only thing you can do is try without it and test things....maybe something new in your diet or something.........
Our hormones are weird....scientists still don't know all about them....
So really its trial and error with a lot of things.....
I hope this sorta helped....
take it easy

I have been on the depo shot for 3 years now. I wasn't on any birth control pills for years since my husband had that taken care of, but I kept track and noticed that I was in more pain and had flares during ovulation. Ever since I have been on the depo shot, I have had 2 flares and they weren't bad. Plus as my husband says, I no longer have PMS which seemed to get worse the older I got. There were days that my family didn't dare cross me and I just couldn't control it. I used to never understand PMS until I got to where I would tell my husband I was so easily irritated that I could just pull my skin off. I felt so out of control. Now I don't have that issue and I love it.
I don't know all about hormones and all that, but all I knew what I journaled and I knew just when I was going to have a flare and had to arrange my life around that.

You still get periods with the depo shot, right?

Well, I've now been flaring non-stop for a week, and I noticed my bladder has been worse the last two days. I also noticed I've been spotting the last two days.
I really think it's because of the lower level of hormones, which has made me spot, (whereas Seasonale never did) which in turn is making my bladder flare even more. Whenever I have a period I flare horribly...
I've noticed my vulvodynia has been a lot worse lately too. I'm VERY sore.
I'm not sure what to do. Tough it out and try Lybrel for longer, or switch back to Seasonale...

I was wondering the same thing actually. I was on lo ovral, and my doctor decided that I should be switched to Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. I'm in the third month, and have spend about two weeks out of each month in pain. I had been doing so well prior to the switch, and now, it's terrible. I was beginning to think I was crazy for thinking that it might be my birth control though.

I called my doctor last night, and I'm switching back to Seasonale. This Lybrel has been RIDICULOUS. I've been bleeding nonstop for three weeks now. I can't take it anymore. So I think I'm just going to stop taking it for the rest of the month, and start Seasonale again in June.
