I don't know how many of you remember this show,...heck, maybe it's still on somewhere!.............

Hollywood Squares

If you remember the Original Hollywood Squares and its comics, this may bring a tear to your eyes. These great questions and answers are from the days when " Hollywood Squares" game show responses were spontaneous, not scripted, as they are now. Peter Marshall was the host asking the questions, of course.

Q. If you're going to make a parachute jump, at least how high should you be?
A. Charley Weaver: Three days of steady drinking should do it.

Q. True or False, a pea can last as long as 5,000 years.
A. George Gobel: Boy, it sure seems that way sometimes.

Q. You've been having trouble going to sleep. Are you probably a man or a woman?
A. Don Knotts: That's what's been keeping me awake.

A. George Gobel: I don't know, but it's coming from the next apartment.

Q. As you grow older, do you tend to gesture more or less with your hands while talking?
A. Rose Marie: You ask me one more growing old question Peter, and I'll give you a gesture you'll never forget!

Q. Paul, why do Hell's Angels wear leather?
A. Paul Lynde: Because chiffon wrinkles too easily.

Q.Charley, you've just decided to grow strawberries. Are you going to get any during the first year?
A. Charley Weaver: Of course not, I'm too busy growing strawberries.

A. Rose Marie: Unfortunately Peter, I'm always safe in the bedroom.

Q. Can boys join the Camp Fire Girls?
A. Marty Allen: Only after lights out.

Q. When you pat a dog on its head he will wag his tail. What will a goose do?
A. Paul Lynde: Make him bark?

I love these. Yes, I am old enough to remember the game from the very beginning and also old enough to have forgotten how wonderfully funny this show was.

LOL! I sooooooo wish they would bring back REAL TV - not reality TV like they have now *sighs*.

Oh man....this was such a great show! Hubby and I were just talking the other day about shows like this and...

Hee Haw, Little House on the Prarie, Gentle Ben, ABC Afterschool Specials, NewlyWed Game, I Dream of Jeanie, BeWitched, The Waltons..etc....

THOSE were great shows and now...if you're lucky, you may get to watch some of them on reruns if you get the channels. *sighs*

Brittany, I still record The Waltons on my DVR every day. I have watched it for years. My younger son can watch the first scene now and say what the she is about. My son and his friends actually used to sit and watch the show with me sometimes. I was recording the Little House shows, but I stopped that season pass a while ago.

I hate that TV Land has quit having so many of those shows on now. I used to love "My Three Sons" too. I will go home and check the show guide to see if Hollywood Squares is on.

I'm like Sharon I'm old enough to remember this show and a lot of others - Little house on the Prairie; The Waltons;Chuck Connors in-- The Rifleman; Branded; I can go on and on....

The Rifleman...I have not thought about that in years. It was always so cool the way he spun his rifle around using his wrist and fingers. Johnny Crawford was such a preteen heart throb.

What about...
Have Gun Will Travel
Maverick
The Donna Reed Show
Ozzie and Harriot/The Nelsons
Rawhide
Wagon Train
Father Knows Best
Hazel
The Real McCoys
Our Miss Brooks
Gunsmoke
The Price is Right...Does anyone remember the original without Bob Barker? I can't remember the host's name but I remember the show
What's Your Line?
To Tell The Truth
Password
Queen For A Day
George Burns/Gracey Allen TV Show

If I tell you that I remember these shows; then I'm telling you my age- but I guess you know about how old I am!!! along with Branded - I watch the Real McCoys in the wee morning hours when I can't sleep. (in answer to your question, I can't remember the original host to the price is right)- does anyone know??

Add to this list The Lone Ranger.... When I was growing up my brother and I use to watch all the Western shows in the early morning hours from like 10 to 2pm (so 4 hours- and no one was to bother us).

I think the original host ot "The Price Is Right" was Bill Cullen.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one missing the old days of television!

Last night I had a choice of "Big Brother" (CBS), "Wife Swap" (ABC), Or "Deal or No Deal (CBS)

-No cable up my way!

I mean, what the heck kind of a choice is that? Reminds me of the lyrics from the last CD I bought (Jack Johnson): "I would turn on the TV, but it's so discouraging...."

So, to take after Sharon -who had a lot of great shows on her list,... I'll add a few more........

High Chaparral
Bonanza
How The West Was Won
Mayberry RFD

Wow, do you remember when 'bad' was bad, and 'good' was good? The lines are awful fuzzy now-a-days! Oooops,....showing my age!

The original host of The Price is Right was the late, great Bill Cullen. NOT that I am old enough to remember this, but GSN used to show old black and white game shows on Sunday nights a few years ago. So many of those shows were so much more sophisticated, smarter, and funnier than a lot of the garbage we get now.

Yeah, but I was sure of my answer! You only thought so. :)

Oh well, Bill Cullen was one of the greatest, and deserves to be mentioned as many times as possible!

Both of you are right. I knew it was Bill something but could not remember the last name. Thanks. :)

The Wild, Wild West
The Andy Griffin Show
Wells Fargo
The Alfred Hitchcock Show
Twilight Zone
The Munsters
The Adams Family

Kind of a no-brainer for me, given that Cullen is my mother's maiden name. I know, it's Irish and not French; her deadbeat father was a runaway Irishman. Eventually he ran even further away to America and had a second family, who we've just met within the past month.

Now there's a good example of a wandering thread... :)

Oh and the Tarzan and Shirley Temple movies! My brother and sat and watched those every Saturday afternoon. I guess we really didn't have it too bad before cable came along, huh? I remember when we fought over who got to watch the "color" tv! I wanted to watch The Love Boat and he wanted to watch Dukes of Hazard. Always a battle every Saturday night!

Oh the memories!

My favorite Hollywood Squares moment:

Q: When a male opera singer performs wonderfully, you say "Bravo". What do you say after a wonderful performance by a woman?

Paul Lynde: "Mind if I smoke?"

Yeah, but I was sure of my answer! You only thought so. :)

You have a point there!

I don't know, I'm getting to that age where the lines between what I know and what I think are often blurred!
