I am new to the ICN and actually a media contact person for the ICA...

I have a new "issue" that I am baffled about though... I suddenly developed problems with my intestines and I do not understand what is going on with this and am wondering if this is IC/IBS related. I have never been diagnosed with IBS and have not had too many symptoms of IBS - just constipation that I am proactive about...

I do have an umbilical hernia and originally thought this was my problem, and now docs think it is not. I have had abdominal x-rays, ultrasounds, catscan and colonoscopy - and the only thing that shows up is unusual "back up" of contents in my colon in a couple places....(no matter how many laxitives I use - including mag citrate, miralax and milk of mag....... normal colonoscopy.

Here is the problem - I suddenly have over the past several weeks/month - VERY PAINFUL INTESTINES - I swear it feels like IC in my intestines - like they are raw and ulcerated (but does not show on tests) - I have bloating, burning and cramps - most of the time at or around my belly button and the entire way around my colon. At the same time I am having my first "IC hell flare" that I have had in a long time (that I thought was from the contrast from cat scan - because that is when it started and has not stopped in two weeks).

I feel on a downward spiral here and am so frustrated because my IC has been under control with minimal pain meds for YEARS....starting to feel that old familiar feeling like the doctors think your nuts - all these things that have over the years given me almost a doctor phobia. Ugh.

What does this sound like to you??

I've read a research that people with IBS often have gas retention that cause bloating.It means gas move too slowly.

It could be that there's a food or drink that is bothering you. If you haven't already, you might want to keep a detailed diary for a while to see if you can find any problems. I found that I can't tolerate whole wheat, but it took me a long time to make that discovery. I can eat white bread and some of the grain breads, but give me whole wheat and I'm miserable.

I hope you find out what's going on soon so you can feel better.

I have always thought I have problems with my intestineSP? Everytime I will mention this to my uro, gyn,or family doc they all just tell me i have IBS. I can goto hte bathroom and I get cramps so bad that i am throwing up. It comes and goes, and I cannot find any food to relate it to . After a while, I feel like a hypocondreac-I know I can't spell today!

:hi: Hello;
It sure sounds like you are going threw a lot. I am so sorry to hear that. I have had IBS-c since i can remember even as a kid. But i have not experianced anything like this before. But i can relate to your feelings about doctors. I have been bounced around threw so many doctors that its sickening! Its hard to fine the "one" who will finnaly sit down with you and listen to you. But if it is possible to keep searching for one, I would definatly keep looking. You situation sounds so savier. I can not imagin living with this problem for very long.
Today I have been looking threw past posts, hoping to find something to help me in my own situation. But Maybe something I read could help you. I read a lot of people take pepermint oil. It might have a cooling effect for your intestine.I mnot sure it might be worth a try at least.
I deffinatly believe the Contrast dies do effect the IC condition. a few years back I was haveing a lot of MRI done and catscans done, and I was on a continious flare up. Seemed to take a good year to get over it all, since i had so many done. I must had had one or two done a month for a good 4-5 months, it was none stop. BUt i have not had any of that done in so long, and i really have not had to deal with my IC problem in 7 months now minus a few days here and there, but its was never a week of pain or anything like this. More due to over activitiy.
I wish I could give you more info. I never have experianced your situation before. I hope your able to get an answer very soon. take care and all the best. IF you do find out what it is, maybe you send another post though. So it will be a good referance, if somone else happends to experiance something like you they will be able to get the info.
All the best to you, Hope your feeling better soon.

This sounds like the way I get when I eat to much yeast in my diet. I am allergic to yeast so I have to watch this. I would do what Donna suggested and watch what you are eating. Make a food diary and see how you react to certain foods.. Hope you find out what is causing this..
