I am curious to know if anyone has ever had what I call "blackout spells". It is where you stand up and the room goes black. I am on Elmiron 100Mg 3 times a day, Amitriptyline HCL 25mg 1 time a day, and Hydroxyzine HCL 25mg 1 time a day. I will do this at least 6 times a day. I even started to get dizzy 3 days ago. I am contacting my doctor on Monday to see if my meds need to be switched since I have only been on them a month.
I am not sure which one of these meds could be causing this, but one has to be causing these side effects because I did not have this problem before the meds.

they might want to also check your blood pressure. A low blood pressure would cause you to have these blackout periods. Really need to go in and see the md . I am sure they will want you to come in for appt. Sudden drop in bp from lying down to standing is also what born2swim is mentioning. Sit on the edge of the bed for a few minutes before getting up or making any quick movements. You really need to see the Md. Elavil is usually found to increase your blood pressure.

Yes!! Please contact your Doctor.. This could be a side effect to one of your medicines..

Orthostatic hypotension (or postural hypotension). Try standing up slower and see if it helps... but you really need to talk with your doctor about which med could be doing this to you. It could really be your blood pressure.
I agree, you need to talk to your Dr. about this.

I would talk to you doctor but I will say that I get dizzy every time I get up. The doctors said it was from all the meds I am on and not to worry at this point.
I would check with your doctor though to be sure!

I have been on Effexor for years, but just started amitriptyline and hydroxyzine, as well. It's only been a few days. I haven't blacked out at all, but every time I stand up I get that blurry, fuzzy, I stood up too fast feeling. I used to get that feeling every once in a while (before starting these meds). Now it's a lot. I imagine blacking out can be very frightening. It's always best to run it past your doc. I do believe both meds you mentioned have "anti-cholinergic effects," which plays out in all parts of our bodies. I get dizziness, dry mouth, constipation. It affects the way our smooth muscles work. Because smooth muscles line our blood vessels, it certainly explains the effects.....but DO check just to make sure. I get heart palpitations sometimes that really freak me out, but I've learned to deal with them as well.
Let us know how it goes!

I went to see my doctor today. I called this morning and when I told them what was going on they said they needed to see me. My blood pressure was okay 108/70. My doctor wants me to see what med could be causing this. I have to stop the Hydroxyzine for one week. If my side effects are still there than I have to start the Hydroxyzine again and stop the Amitriptyline. If after 2 weeks I am still feeling the same than I have to go back and she is going to recommend me to a doctor to have my GI tract checked. My father has Chrones disease and my mother has IBS. My father has had Chrones for 30 years now and is 64 years old. My mother has had IBS for 20 years. So hopefully this will work in stopping the black outs.
I see on many peoples profiles that they also have IBS along with IC. So hopefully I will not have anything else wrong and this is just a reaction happening from the meds.
