I had my in office cysto on Wednesday (editted this b/c I wrote Monday on accident but it WAS Wednesday). He tried to fill my bladder but it was too difficult for me to tolerate. I'm not even sure how much he actually instilled. It was just 15 min procedure which was pretty quick but it was pretty unpleasant.

Two days later I'm feeling decent. I have Pyridium. That helps some. I'm still taking Ibuprofen 800mg which helps some. I'm never really "pain free" but I have been pretty decent at times since starting the Pyridium.

I know that the general anesthetic takes time to get out of your system.

What other differences are there in terms of recovery? Or is this more of a case by case differential as well?

I was pretty sore prior to the cysto so I knew I'd be rather sore after.

When I had my first office cysto, I left the doctor's office and went back to my desk at work. I had a little irritation, but didn't need pain meds. If it turns out that you have IC, ibuprofen might be a real irritant --- I know I can't take even 400 mg.

When I had my in-office cysto, I had a lot of pain for about 2 hours, but with Pyridium & an ice pack, I was back to my previous level of symptoms by evening.

I had a cysto under general anesthesia 3 weeks ago. I felt groggy afterwards and for a couple days. The doctor told me that the distension would either make my symptoms a lot better or a lot worse. It made mine a whole lot worse. My mom works in the OR so i felt more comfortable going there and doing it where she works than doing it awake, alone in my doctors office. Right after I woke up it was the worst pain i have ever had, especially when going to the bathroom. I had to go pee about 100 times before I went home it was terrible cause my bladder kept filling up with blood. Ugh it was miserable.

Someone posted this earlier about ibuprofen and it really makes sense

Just wanted to let you know, Michelle that my doctor at the Cleveland Clinic told me ANY NSAID's had to be stopped immediately because like they hurt and aggravate stomach ulcers, they hurt and exacerbate bladder ulcerations or glomurelations. So he said no more ibuprofen or aspirin containing products.

I had an in-office cysto on Monday and was in real pain until two days later. I used uristat, which helped quite a bit, but boy did I know it when it was time to take another pill. The bleeding is what freaked me out the most! I did fairly well the day of, but the next day it really increased. Just about the time I thought maybe I should call my doctor it thankfully stopped. And, of course, it didn't "prove" anything! I was given a script for Zyrtec and told to come back in three months. :(

I've had both. The in-office cysto was absolute hell for me. The drs and nurses really down-played how painful it would be. I wasnt given any pain medication, and didn't know about pyridium back then, so those things probably would have helped. I was in severe pain for hours afterwards and bad pain for 2 days.

I just had an cysto/hydro under anesthesia about 3 weeks ago. This was by a different uro - the uro I'm seeing now will not even do in-office cystos on anyone they even suspect might have IC because of the pain factor.

Anyway, I woke up feeling like I had to go and urinating didnt relieve the feeling completly. But I was given pain meds and had pyridium to use, and I really didnt feel all that bad. I tried to rest after getting home from the hospital that day and rested some the next day, and after that, I felt pretty much back to normal.

It really didn't help matters though. Luckily, it didnt seem to make it worse. Right now, I feel like I have pretty much all along.

They did find out my capacity is only 300cc under anesthesia though - which is a pretty small capacity. (frequency/pressure is my biggest problem)

I go back to see the uro next month, possibly to set up urodynamic testing.

I really don't do well with pain, but have found that if I relax, procedures are much easier.

OK.. This thread has convinced me that I will not be doing the cysto. I can go without being diagnosed. My bladder has been looked at with ultrasound and catscan.. I hope that's enough because I'm sure not doing the cysto thing. :loco:
