I am going in for my preop appt. today for my hydro on April 9th- and doing housework this morning I came across a letter from my doc about the surgery.... there are all sorts of guidelines for recovery. The letter makes it seem as though normal activity is going to be difficult post surgery..... no exercise, no sex for 4-6 weeks...... no lifting anything heavy.... I am wondering if it is just a generic letter that all patients get or if it is specifically for hydro patients. Can anyone shed some light on how difficult it was to get back to normal? Thanks!

For me, I was back to doing my normal routine the very next day. But I do not work at a day job out of the house, nor did I at that time. Just remember that everyone reacts differently to things. That is probably why the letter. The doctor has to cover any problem that might crop up.

You really shouldn't do any heavy lifting right after a hydro --- it's best to give yourself some time to recover. When I have a hydro, I feel pretty good within only a few days, but I do restrict some activities for a few weeks just to play it safe.

For me I work outside the home, but I schedule my hydros on a Friday so that I have the weekend to recover. I recover pretty quickly, can usually go back to work on the following Monday (I have a office job- if I need to I can use my heating pad or even go home if getting to feel too bad). But usually on the weekends I just lay around the house and watch TV and read.
