Hi I read in lots of post that they have had a dip test and it came back negative, :evilsmile now I know that lots of us get symptoms of UTI's but it is just our IC acting up, and you can't tell the difference. Many time the Dr. would test mine it would come back neg. he would recomend AB's I would turn them down (want them to work when I really need them), often I would end up going back with more symptoms suggestive of a UTI, and would end up takeing the AB's. When I did take AB's I would ussally need to take two sets of AB's (which I hated because cipro drug of choice of my Dr. makes me not sleep, and I already have trouble sleeping, and this is a biggie for me because I also get migraines and no sleep means a headache for days) Anyways I had immunity test done and it came back that I have very low immunity so I don't make white blood cells or the fighter cells when I get an infection, this is what they are looking for when they dip. My urine is always sent out for culture every two weeks and inbetween if needed. I was on over load at the Dr. so I didn't ask if a culture will show infections or not, need to ask at next app. I have been hqaveing the UTI tests by weekly for a couple of years, but only just found out about the immunity thing a couple of months ago.
For those interested it was called a C4 test, I am in Canada so it may be called something else in other places. I had the test once and it was low (Dr. was expecting it to be high). He said we would rerun the test in months time just to make sure we got true results and it came back the same. I asked what this means for me he said I can't fight off infections, and will not present as most people no fever, pus etc. so I have to be careful. Interesting enough for the last few years I have only had UTI's, no colds or flu thank god I am not sure if I could handle it on top of IC.
I don't know if it is worth others asking to be tested for this, but it came to mind when so many people write in UTI test was neg. There is nothing that can be done for this at this time, he said if I want or if I get really sick I could get Immunigoblins shot (probably sp wrong) but I am reluctant, it is someone else's immunity by it also is a blood born product, and you know what all goes with that. I would if I had too but reluctanly.
I take cold FX at the first sign of a cold or flu, and it seems to ward it off. cold FX is a type of ginsing, I can't say if cause flares because, although I have know for 5 years I have IC my Dr. never indicated there was any treatment for it.
A couple of months ago he said I should go se an IC specilist, still waiting to see one, but I have been reading here, and have gone on the diet which has helpped lots, I have been meds info from here to my new Dr. and he is willing to try what ever I ask for in the meant time.
Anyway thought I would share this infor incase someone else is in the same boat.
