Hi everyone,

I have a question about Tofranil. I tried Elavil and then another tri-cyclic called Vivactil. Elavil made me severely constipated, which is problematic for my fissures and hemorrhoids (also according to my colon doc to be part of the whole pelvic nerve dysfunction).

I thought about asking my doctor for Tofranil, to give another tri-cyclic a try. The Vivactil was better, but at 15 mgs, I was not getting any relief (Vivactil has much lower dosing than Ami or Tofranil, max dose is 60 mg/day).

Question: what kind of pain does the Tofranil address? My pain doctor thinks I am very difficult to treat because my pain is sort of dull, diffuse, and sore. Not stabbing, throbbing. There is some burning, but that is not the primary symptom.

Is the constipation better on Tofranil than Elavil for you folks?

Tofranil has not caused me any constipation, It has been working better for me than Elavil. I was having some side effects with Elavil. Tofranil does not seem to give me any dise effect. It helps me with IC pain in general and helps alot with Vulvodynia pain..
