I have been taking elavil for a few months and I have had great results from it, my pain has diminshed greatly. The downside is I can NOT wake up in the morning, I will sleep no problem 10-11 hours and I have to force myself out of bed. Does anyone else have this problem???

What you are going thru is very common. Last year I did 10mg and after a month I felt the same way you do so I went off it. I went to a different doc 2 weeks ago (an IC specialist this time). He wanted me to try 10mg again. I told him that after a month the last time I was on it I still felt groggy. He has me on 5mg for now. He said we will slowly up the dose. Ive been on the 5mg for 2 weeks now, and my pain is going away slowly, and Im not waking up groggy. Maybe you can talk to the doc about starting on a lower dose and working your way up. My mom is on 50mg per day after a few years, and it doesnt make her tired at all. Good luck!

Meds are so different. I started back on 50 mg yesterday, been off for a few months but with all this decongestant, it was messing with my bladder. Yesterday morning, I was like a ragdoll and just couldn't get my brain out of the fog. I even fell asleep while sitting on the toilet at work. I woke up when I heard someone come in, but I already had the indention on my wrist from my watch! LOL!!! Last night I meant to take it earlier but I took it around 9:00 and had no problems waking up. By the end of the week, it won't even make me sleepy anymore, but at least it is helping with my freq while on am on theses meds for my ear infection.

I also take mine around 7PM that way it is coming out of my system by morning. IT took me awhile to adjust to the groggy feeling also.

Yeah drowsiness is a common side effect....i had it......now i don't and i have been bumped up from 10mg to 75 mg............i did it gradually but yeah i would have to stay that i get no drowsiness from it......
I started a couple months ago.........
so you can either stay with that and wait till it goes away or some people who find that that type of therapy is good they find that nortriptyline is less drowsy.......and basically the same med.........
hope this helped
take care

I take 25-50mg elavil at 700pm as well. Years ago I could not barely tolerate elavil and took 10mg for years. I could not take 25mg elavil back then but I can now my tolerance is different now. If just put myself back down to 25mg.
If I was working it would be 25mg and no more maybe back to 10mg.
It gets better hang in there. Just don't take it too late at night. 7-8pm is a good time no later or you will be having a hard time getting up in the am. Vicky
