Recently I have been having what I would describe as muscle leg cramps especially at bedtime. Sometimes my legs get to hurting so bad I can't sleep. I looked up "restless leg symdrome", but I'm not sure this is what I have. However, it did say that Elavil could cause this condition. Has anyone else experienced anything like this and if so, what did you do about it? I sure don't want to give up my Elavil, because it has helped with my IC condition as well as Vulvodynia.

I have never had this problem when I was on Elavil. I would talk to your dr about this..

I've been on Elavil for over a year and recently have had some horrible leg pain. Mine is not just at bedtime and sometimes it hurts so bad I can barely walk. I describe it almost as the worst growing type pains I ever got as a kid. Since I've been on it so long and I just started having these symptoms I don't think mine is linked to the Elavil. I would def bring it up to your dr. When I brought it up to my pelvic pain specialist he told me to make an appointment with a rheumy which I did but couldn't get an appointment until the end of May with their schedule for new patients and my upcoming hysterectomy. I hope you get to the bottom of what the problem is.

Hi,

I think it could be RLS or side effects. Many of us are horrendously sensitive to meds. It also sounds like you are describing my "brand" of Restless Leg Syndrome.

My Dr. first Rx'd Mirapex....ugh...nasty headache the next day with 1/2 or 1/4tablet. Requip is heaven for me. You can also get the Dr. to write the Rx for a higher amount, if he or she is willing, and you can split the tablets to save money.

Like everyone else has said, of course you need to do this working with your Dr. or health care provider.

I sure had a nasty headache with that Mirapex.

Sometimes it takes quite a long time to develop side effects from a medication. I know I used to be able to take penicillin and sulfa with no problem, now either will cause a severe rash. And I could take pain medications with no problem for years before they started causing nausea.

Please talk with your doctor about your leg pain. It could even be something as simple as a deficiency in potassium or calcium and a simple blood test would give you an answer.

My mother would debate me on this because I have always never liked to stay still even while I slept, but I feel that I have restless leg syndrome every since I started on my regimen of meds.

I cramped up quite a bit last year when I broke my foot and HAD to lie on my back to sleep for 2 months plus.

Phenergan has had me had muscle cramps in my legs before in the past several times when they have given it to me at the ER.The Dr told me to take benadryl when I got home, and it helped. Not sure if it would help you or not, or if you can take it, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

:hi:I just had to reply to your post because it sounded so familiar. I broke my ankle in November and also had to lie on my back with my leg elevated. Shortly after all this was when I started having these leg cramps or whatever they are. Have no idea if they are a side effect from Elavil or something else. I will mention this to my dr. but don't see him until May.

:hi:I thought it could possibly be potassium or lack of, so I bought potassium pills...wrong choice. My bladder hated them, so now I am trying to eat one banana a day to see if it helps. So far it hasn't. I, too, get a rash with sulfa. I will mention this all to my dr. when I see him in May. Thanks

My husband recently started to take Elavil. I have noticed that in the night when he is asleep his legs are twitching, or ever shaking. He has not noticed this but I have, I assume it is the Elavil it is the only meds he takes.
